Increased Workplace Violence at UVMMC

UVM Medical Center nurses say they’re under attack

Last week, WCAX met with nurses and staff at UVM Medical Center (UVMMC) to learn about the increase in verbal and physical assaults on staff from patients within the Emergency Department. Nurses are saying enough is enough, it is time for the community to step up and support the safety of our Medical Center staff. Within the last year, 98% of UVMMC nurses reported verbal assaults and 78% reported physical assaults, with injuries ranging from minor cuts and bruises to broken bones and brain injuries. The UVM Health Network has since announced their commitment to working with community stakeholders on identifying solutions that will help keep citizens safe in the workplace and around the community.
