Dear Friend,
The Friends of the San Juans' Board of Directors is thrilled to announce that we have hired Eva Schulte as our new Executive Director! Eva brings her passion for the Salish Sea and extensive leadership experience to the Friends team; she begins the first week in April. As you are such a valued member and supporter of Friends, we wanted you to be among the first to know this exciting news.
Eva Schulte, Friends of the San Juans’ Executive Director
Eva is finalizing her work as Executive Director for Whatcom Community College Foundation, where she has been stewarding community support for students and strategic educational initiatives across our bioregion. Eva is also an Executive Committee Board Director for the Sierra Club Foundation and chairs that Foundation’s national Grants Committee. During her career, Eva has driven lasting and systemic change throughout the social sector for the health and dignity of people and our planet. Among the skills Eva brings to Friends is her experience with organizational management, philanthropic advising, impact investing, business as a force for good, civic engagement, and public policy.
The board is very grateful to the entire professional staff team at Friends for their dedication and impressive achievements during our transition. We especially want to recognize and thank Deputy Director Shannon Davis, who very capably guided Friends staff as Interim Executive Director over the past five months. With more than 20 years at Friends, Shannon stepped up when we needed it the most.
With your support, Friends’ efforts to protect and restore the San Juan Islands and the Salish Sea will continue to grow. The Board is excited to have Eva at the helm, leading Friends as we address growing community and ecosystem needs, while building collaborative and impactful partnerships.
The entire Board appreciates your dedication to protecting what we all love! I am grateful to serve with our dynamic Board of Directors who guide Friends’ incredible work alongside our strong network of passionate members, partners, and professional team.
Eva is excited to connect with you and is planning to travel the islands during her first months so that she can meet members in person. You can reach her directly by sending a welcome note at eva@sanjuans.org.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Ken Carrasco Board President Friends of the San Juans
