Dear Eco-Stewards,

As the winter season arrives, we are looking forward to several exciting educational events, including the On-Farm Composting Course starting in January in Ramona and the ever-popular Master Composter Course starting in February in Escondido. These courses only happen once a year, so grab your spot now if you've been waiting for your chance to participate!

Secondly, thank you to all who have contributed to our end of year fundraising initiative. Giving Tuesday was a fun and exciting day and we are now almost halfway to our end-of-year fundraising goal, which will enable us to continue working toward a world with landfills and oceans free of discarded resources. Our volunteer program of 600 active volunteers extends this environmental programming throughout the County, with 2,500 hours given annually.

If you missed the fun, there's still time to give. Thank you for supporting our mission.

Yours in climate resilience,

Jessica Toth
Executive Director

Please note: Our Center will be closed on Saturday, December 23 and Saturday, December 30.

U-waste (battery & light bulb) drop-off has been put on hold by the City of Encinitas until further notice. The last day we will accept Food Cycle buckets will be Saturday, December 2.

Thank you for your understanding.

Join us for an upcoming event!

Reduce Your Food Waste This Holiday Season

Did you know an average American throws away a pound of food daily? On top of that, Americans generate 43% more household waste each year between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, 53% of which is food waste.

To help you reduce your food waste this holiday season, we compiled a few tips to help your household have a happy and low-waste holiday season.

Want to Recycle Your Christmas Tree?

Most jurisdictions allow Christmas trees in the curbside bin, as long as decorations have been removed and they are cut in pieces to fit. You may also visit wastefreesd.org and type in "Trees" and your zip code to find nearby recycling locations.

Are you a City of San Diego resident? Click here for more information on Christmas tree recycling.

Curious about which packaging, decorations, and food items can be recycled or composted and which cannot? Check out the guide below!
