     Rural Transfer Facilities
Providing Convenient and Affordable Waste Disposal and Recycling for Small, Rural Communities

What do community centers, libraries, nature parks, playgrounds, and Rural Transfer Facilities have in common? They are all considered public assets, improving the quality of life for residents. In sparsely populated, rural communities, Rural Transfer Facilities provide residents with ways to properly dispose of their household trash and recycling which helps keep local communities clean and beautiful. Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful is promoting the development of Rural Transfer Facilities in communities with fewer than 300 people per square mile, where trash collection and recycling are not always convenient or affordable. Learn more.

Affiliate Spotlight: Allegheny CleanWays

Every year, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful is proud to support Allegheny CleanWays as it puts its toughest volunteers to the test with the triTRASHlon, a two-day, bike-packing, trash-hauling challenge that combines grit, teamwork, and making an environmental impact.

This year’s ride, held June 14–15, took participants on a 26-mile loop through the Mon Valley, beginning in Duquesne and stopping in McKeesport, Boston, and Buena Vista before circling back. Along the way, these dedicated volunteers cleared a staggering 680 pounds of trash and 32 tires from Dead Man’s Hollow and the Youghiogheny River shoreline!

Congratulations to this year's triTRASHlon champions, and a big thank you to the sponsors and partners who made it possible: Public Lands, Giant Eagle, Peony Women's Bike Tours, Black Radish, Cinderlands Beer Co, NuGo Nutrition Bars, Allegheny Land Trust, Imagin8 Press, Interpersonal Psychotherapy Services, and 412 Clean Teams.

Together, you proved that a little sweat can lead to a lot of change!
