Hello CLTV community!

The Impact Collective keeps finding new ways to bring our community together, deepen our connections, and create space for people to take action.

Within the past few weeks alone we are proud to have achieved 3 major milestones:

  • We wrapped up CLTV6, our latest cohort of brilliant women committed to closing the racial wealth gap;
  • We completed our first Couples Workshop with 3 courageous couples;
  • We launched our new Collective Conversations series with an overview of our evolving vision to participate in the creation of a new American economy by refining and expanding our offerings. Tapping into and strengthening the ecosystem of communities and organizations organizing white people and people with wealth.

We are thrilled to have you as part of this very exciting work. See below for some reflections about each of these exciting occasions and more.

In partnership,

“We just wrapped up the sixth cohort of the Impact Collective’s Intensive Workshop, and what a powerful group of women it was! It was clear from our opening session, which was held in person for the first time—how the women hungered for connection; for a space to share around topics so many have been socialized not to talk about: race, privilege, wealth… Their commitment to honesty, vulnerability, personal growth and action has been—and continues to be—inspiring.”
Susan Naimark, Intensive Workshop Facilitator

Laura Burnes, Aaron Pikcilingis, Ethan Kerr (Facilitator), Lisa Goodman, Daniel Goodman, Kelly Sherman, and Julia Johannsen (Facilitator).

We are beginning to more intentionally engage men in our work of aligning wealth to values! Julia and Ethan Kerr co-facilitated our first Couples Workshop this winter. Women involved with the Impact Collective and their male partners came together over two sessions in Brookline.

Together they explored how gender and family might influence their relationship to money, money management, and one another. They wrestled with how to connect their personal values with their financial decisions. And they began to activate some CLTV tools and resources for taking concrete next-steps toward action.

Stay tuned for more opportunities for couples!

Q: Tell us a little bit about your firm?
A: Nubian Square Investment Advisors is an impact focused firm that works with individuals, families, and institutions. Our mission is centered on racial wealth equity by providing financial planning and investment management services to diverse wealth builders and to those that care about a more sustainable, equitable world and society.

The company is apart of several coalitions and networks that are committed to finding new ways to create a more just financial market such as New England Impact Investing Initiative, Racial Justice Investing coalition, Rad Planners, and the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) Faith Based Racial Equity Investing fellowship.

 Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
A: As a son of an educator, transferring knowledge is the most enjoyable aspect. Seeing the relief after helping someone implement a financial plan and investment strategy is another great feeling.

Q: What’s your dream project or client?
A: My dream project is working with a foundation or family to implement an impact portfolio across the public and private markets—it'd be great to allocate assets to diverse owned businesses and into corporations that have committed to and stood by DEI policies. The dream client would not only share my values for investing their time and resources in economic justice and racial wealth equity, but would also be an advocate as NSIA continues to grow over the years. A bonus would be if they had a sense of humor over a nice dinner.

 Q: How did you get into this work?
A: In elementary school, I was in a program that had a stock simulation. I bought Target (TGT) and it appreciated in value, so I've been amazed by the power of investing ever since. After high school, I moved from Dallas to New York City to attend Fordham University and to pursue my dream career as a professional investor. That jump led me to UBS Wealth Management, Merrill Lynch Private Banking and Investment Group, the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Eaton Vance Management, and finally the Ujima Fund.

I've always cared about others, but learned more about ESG and impact investing during my time in Boston. I was motivated to take part in the social justice movement around racial wealth equity—so I left my job to play an active role in closing the racial wealth gap.

Q: What do you do when you aren’t working?
A: I'm usually with my wife, Charnice, and son, Josiah (2 years old), with friends, or outdoors. I'm also, painfully, a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan.
