Show Your Support for Shelter's Proposed New Home for Child Victims of Human Trafficking |
Join Us Palatine Village Board Meeting Monday, August 7 at 7:00pm Palatine Village Hall, 200 E. Wood Street |
On Monday, August 7, Shelter, Inc. will seek approval from the Palatine Village Board to move forward with plans to build the first DCFS-approved home for child victims of human trafficking.
We need to show the Palatine Village Board that there is widespread community support for this project.
When people hear about human trafficking, they assume it’s not happening in our community—but it is. These young girls are our neighbors, our kids’ friends, even our relatives. They need our help—here, in a safe and loving home, not in a psychiatric hospital in another state.
Please help us provide a safe environment in which young girls can receive the specialized support and services they need to heal and find hope for the future.

The New Home
- Safe and Secure Safety for both these young girls and the surrounding community is paramount. The home will be staffed 24/7 by adult professionals. It will be fully fenced with security cameras. The address will be confidential with no outside signage . Potential residents will be screened before being accepted. Shelter is working directly with the Palatine Police Department to put safety protocols in place.
- Environmentally-friendly The home will be built on three acres of green space in a non-residential area using shipping containers. This construction method is efficient and economical, and will minimize Shelter's carbon footprint.
- No impact on local traffic Only the employees have vehicles and the site has ample parking.

Shelter is uniquely qualified to open this home and offer a safe and healing environment for victims of commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking. We have a long track record of operating safely in Palatine and surrounding communities.
With your support, we can bring life changing services to the most vulnerable young women in our community and foster positive change that will resonate for generations to come. |
