Over the course of about 250 years, beginning about 1750, perhaps a million sea otters were harvested for their fur throughout their range. When the harvest ended 13 small populations remained, all but one along their northern range. Today more than 150,000 sea otters occupy more than half their original range. Other sea otter stories Jim will tell include their relation to the locally abundant river otter, their ecology, predators and other research on sea otters in the wild.
To keep this lecture series accessible to all, regardless of the ability to pay, there is no set charge for these lecture events; however, donations are always welcomed and appreciated.

Do you have a teen that is interested in electronics? And video games?
JeffCo Repair will be hosting a Video Game Console Repair Class with the Port Townsend Library during the month of January!
In this program students will each repair an Xbox 360 for the “Yellow Light of Death” error. This will introduce students to the many basic skills involved with taking apart a video game console, troubleshooting electronic issues, and repairing them. These skills are ones that can be built upon and will provide confidence for future electronic repairs. Consoles and all other necessary supplies will be provided for the students to work on.
There is a maximum of 6 students, so please reach out if interested!
This program will run for 4 consecutive Wednesdays – January 10, 17, 24, and 31 from 1:30pm-3pm. These dates/times coincide with PT’s early release schedule.
Teen should be able to commit to each of the 4 sessions. Please reach out if this isn’t a possibility and we can consider alternatives.
We will meet in the Pink House at the PT Library! (This is the building right outside of their entrance at 1220 Lawrence Street)

If you haven't been to downtown Port Townsend since August, you may not know that PTMSC along with Stefanie Worwag, Mario Rivera, Les Schnick, and Ric Brenden installed a new exhibit on Union Wharf. At 42 feet long, this impressive installation is inspiring hundreds of people every week to learn more about gray whales and their home under the waves. The story behind this exhibit is an amazing example of community collaboration in service of the mission to inspire conservation of the Salish Sea. Read more about the Whale on the Wharf here.
