Dear members,
Last week saw legislative days 13 – 16 with committees in full swing. Most notably, House Bill 85, legislation requiring insurance coverage of biomarker testing if ordered by a medical professional, passed out of the House Insurance Life and Health Subcommittee on Monday with attempts to amend the bill made by the insurance lobby. These amendments were opposed by bill sponsor, Rep. Sharon Cooper, and were not considered by the committee. The bill then went before the full Insurance Committee where is passed unamended on Thursday. It was presented in House Rules and is on the calendar for a full vote of the House of Representatives tomorrow. We will continue our efforts and support of this bill as it moves forward.
House Bill 343, the Lowering Prescription Drug Costs for Patients Act, was introduced last week and has been assigned to the House Health Committee. This is the Share the Savings legislation from the past few years requiring 80% of pharmaceutical manufacturers rebates be passed along to the customer at the point of sale, in this case, at the pharmacy counter. The bill has not been given a hearing date yet but there is a House Health Committee meeting with no set agenda scheduled for Wednesday, February 22nd, so we will keep you updated on this legislation as it moves.
Join the CGHI: Georgia Bio policy team and members of the Georgia General Assembly, including House Speaker Jon Burns and Senate Majority Leader Steve Gooch, on Wednesday, February 22nd at 5 p.m. for a Legislative Reception! Hosted at the Tower Square lobby, the event will feature cocktails, light hors d’oeuvres, networking with elected officials, and tours of the pre-construction CGHI Innovation District, scheduled to open late 2023.
Should you have questions, concerns, or just want more information on a legislative issue, please don’t hesitate to reach out to members of our Policy Team.
