An amazing night out!

Those of you who had tickets for our April concert starring Nikolai Sivchuk and Arcana Nomadica,  experienced an amazing night of virtuosic music.  Luanne Homzy and the her ensemble blew the socks off most of our attendees and the audiences' enthusiastic response can be seen in our little sizzle video above.  We look forward to welcoming Luanne and co back to Melodia Mariposa again, but in the meantime here is information about their upcoming concerts in LA.

A new violin for Irina

As many of you know, violinist Irina Voloshina, the founder of Melodia Mariposa, lost her home in the Altadena Fire. and with it four violins.

You may also know about the wonderful local organization, Altadena Musicians, founded by Brandon Jay, that sources and donates instruments to musicians who lost them in the fire.

Recently, Brandon received a 1928 Hungarian violin from Richard Foss, the Director of Collage - A Place for Art and Culture.  He had been given the violin by a man whose family had left Hungary during the Revolution in 1956.  It was one of the only things they were able to carry with them.

This violin was presented to Irina last week and she wants to thank the donor, Richard and Brandon for their kindness and generosity.  She hopes to play the instrument for the donor in the future.

Through Darkness, Light and Shadow

Our next concert will be on Saturday May 23rd at 7pm.  We are delighted to be joined again by the amazing Lyris Quartet for a concert featuring a fascinating mix of composers, old and new.

This vibrant program features composers spanning several centuries including Altadena’s own Savannah Jo Lack - with a piece written after the Eaton Fire -  alongside Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Caroline Shaw.  Works by Benjamin Britten and Beethoven round out the program. Blending fresh contemporary voices with timeless masterworks, the evening provides a journey of moods—somber, playful, and ultimately profound—drawing the listener from reflection to intensity.

The concert will be held is the Neighborhood Unitarian Church on Orange Grove, Pasadena and as it is smaller than our other venues, space will be more limited than usual, so please only book a free ticket if you know you can come!

Free tickets will be available on May 10th - mark your calendar!

Save the date - September 20th

Members only Concert and Party

Existing members of Melodia Mariposa will remember the wonderful party we held last September in Altadena, featuring music from Leah and I and wine and coffee pairings from several countries.

This year, as ever, we want to change things up again and are planning a Blue Grass party in the garden with amazing musicians and delicious food.  This concert is a thank you gift to our members and patrons and we hope it will encourage you to join if you haven't already done so.

You can check you membership status and renewal date by logging into your account.  Feel free to contact Catherine with any questions.
