Co-op Connect!
East Side Cooperatives Initiative
Hello Community!
In case you missed our first newsletter, beginning in 2022, four organizations and several community members came together to learn about ways to prevent displacement and grow community wealth on the East Side. We decided that a real estate investment cooperative was a worthwhile initiative to help achieve those goals.
The four organizations involved are the East Side Area Business Association (ESABA), East Side Freedom Library (ESFL), District 2 Community Council (D2), and East Side Neighborhood Development Center (ESNDC).
Third Quarter Update
We've spent the spring and summer working with Benjamin Tsai of Nexus Community Partners to write our bylaws and craft our mission, vision, and values. The finished first draft is now being reviewed by a law firm.
What’s next?
Once the bylaws are finished being reviewed, we will officially incorporate the East Side Cooperative Initiative as a 308a cooperative in the state of Minnesota!
We’re beginning to look at potential first properties that we would purchase as a cooperative.
We’re also attending events and hosting our own to promote the co-op beginning in the fall. We’ll send out another update when we have some events scheduled!
On September 9th, come see us at the Uniquely East Side Festival at Plaza Latina located at 927 Payne Avenue!
Stay Involved
To keep our momentum going, we ask that you spread the word about our efforts. Have an East Side neighbor who might be interested? Share their email with us so we can get in touch!
We will begin our member drive sometime in the near future. More details to come. If you’re interested in chatting more about the co-op in general, we are always excited to talk with you.
You can get in touch with us by emailing esci.connect@gmail.comor checking out the ESABA website.
