Girls at the Forefront: Climate Change, Education & Investment

Resilience in Action: CFK Africa’s Community-Focused Response to Climate and Health Challenges with Executive Director, Jeffrey Okoro

CFK Africa is no stranger to dealing with crisis. In the past 12 months alone, the Kenya-based NGO has provided healthcare services to Kenya's most vulnerable during catastrophic flooding, political protests, and a nation-wide medical workers strike. In this seminar, CFK Africa Executive Director, Jeffrey Okoro, will discuss the organization’s response to challenges at the intersections of climate and health and continued efforts to boost resilience in informal settlements. Through a participatory development approach, CFK Africa fights extreme poverty in 26 informal settlements throughout Kenya through complementary youth leadership initiatives and public health platform in partnership with the CDC, UNC-Chapel Hill, and local communities. The Global Health Council is accepting submissions for proposed concurrent sessions during the 2024 Global Health Landscape Symposium, taking place November 18-20. The 2024 Global Health Landscape Symposium (GHLS) will occur amidst a year of enormous shifts. Approximately 40 national elections, including the U.S. presidential election, are — or already have — taken place worldwide. It is critical to assess the impact this watershed year will have on global health investments and policies, and understand how progress can continue to be made, despite these challenges. The purpose of this year’s GHLS is to explore both virtually and in-person what the changes in governance in the United States and in countries worldwide means for global health.
