Welcome to our November newsletter!
As the days grow shorter and we gather indoors, I’m reminded how much warmth and light this community brings to our shared mission. Every local event, volunteer effort, and conversation about sustainable living adds up to something powerful: real, collective progress toward a healthier planet.
This month’s newsletter celebrates creativity, collaboration, and climate action in all its forms — from serious games that inspire learning to local gatherings that strengthen community ties.
As always, please reach out to let us know what else we can be doing to support you or your community on the road to a healthier planet for all!
When it comes to climate change, we don’t usually think of games — but for Janot Mendler de Suárez, play is one of the most powerful ways to help people understand complex problems and work together to solve them.
A founding member of the Games for a New Climate Task Force, Janot has spent her career turning technical issues — from water management to social resilience — into playful, hands-on learning experiences. Her work with the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre, the Rockefeller Foundation, and Oxfam America has helped communities around the world build resilience through creativity and collaboration.
Games, she explains, make systems visible. They show how one decision ripples through a network, helping people see the big picture — and each other. Even participants who are hesitant or afraid to “look silly” quickly realize that play can be serious fun: it breaks barriers, sparks new ideas, and builds trust.
