New Gear, Renewed Spirit: Foundation Grant Boosts Adaptive Programs
Challenge Mountain has been named the recipient of a generous multi-year grant from the Charles M. and Joan R. Taylor Foundation, earmarked for adaptive recreation programs and equipment.
The 2025 funds have been used to purchase a new junior bi-ski, junior slider and ski racks, plus fifty pairs of new skis and sixteen pairs of new boots to replace and supplement existing equipment. “Many of our alpine skis were outdated and ski boots were worn out from 10 years of heavy use,” shares Linda Armstrong, Challenge Mountain Program Director.
Participants in adaptive skiing include adults living with disabilities as well as students enrolled in local special education or intermediate school district classrooms in Challenge Mountain’s five-county service area.
