Humanist Happenings Keeping You Connected to Humanist Events
March 2025
Bringing Humanism in Canada to Life
One Book, One Community!
A dedicated team of volunteers and courageous donors have worked tirelessly to create a book called Humanism: Canadian Perspectives—a bilingual collection of essays, poetry, and reflections that will bring humanist thought into hospitals, libraries, and community spaces across Canada.
As a Collective, we are so close to making this vision a reality, but we need your help to raise $10,000 in the next two weeks for translation and production. With your support, we can ensure this book reaches the hands of those who need it most. Join us—let’s make history together!
Celebrating the Changing of the Seasons in Community
Our members asked, and we listened! Following the success of our Human Light gathering in December, we are excited to introduce a Seasonal Human Light Series in 2025. These gatherings will provide a secular, community-centered way to mark the natural rhythms of the year.
Join us for our first Spring Equinox Gathering, a relaxed and welcoming online event celebrating renewal, balance, and growth. Through poetry, music, reflection, and shared rituals, we’ll honour the changing season together. Whether you want to share a creative piece, engage in meaningful reflection, or simply connect with fellow Humanists, this event is for you!
What to Expect
Seasonal Reflection - A guided moment to pause and welcome the transition into spring.
Creative Expressions - Poetry, music, and storytelling from community members.
Ritual & Connection - A simple, interactive ritual to mark the season together.
Open Mic Sharing - An opportunity for participants to contribute thoughts, poems, or creative offerings.

Join the Conversation—Even If It’s About Nothing!
Looking for a space where thoughtful discussion meets a good dose of humor? The English-Speaking Members Connect is a gathering where big ideas—like morality, philosophy, and even the concept of "nothing"—are explored in a welcoming and engaging way.
From lively debates on ethics to stories about childhood snow days, this is a place to share perspectives, challenge ideas, and connect with fellow humanists. At our last meeting, we covered everything from thought experiments and humanist values to the psychology of conformity and the philosophy of "nothingness." (Yes, really!)
Want to be part of the conversation? Join us next time and bring your curiosity—we promise, it’s never just about nothing.
Access the meeting link via your member portal – we hope to see you there!
All members are welcome!
📚 March English Speaking Book Club! 🌟
Join us for this month’s Humanist Canada Book Club as we discuss At a Loss for Words: Conversation in an Age of Rage by Carol Off. In this thought-provoking book, Off explores how public discourse has become increasingly polarized, making meaningful conversations more difficult. Through insightful analysis and real-world examples, she examines how we can bridge divides and reclaim the art of civil dialogue.
📅 Date: Monday, March 4 📍 Location: Online (Zoom)
Log in through your portal at the scheduled time to take part in the conversation.
We’d love to have you with us—let’s explore this inspiring read together!

Celebrating Community-Led Gatherings on Secularism!
We love seeing grassroots events that bring together secular thinkers, and the Western Canadian Reason Conference 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting one! Hosted by Rocky Mountain Atheists, this gathering of freethinkers, skeptics, and humanists will take place May 2nd to 4th, 2025, at the Sandman Hotel in downtown Calgary.
With speakers like Seth Andrews, Forrest Valkai, Dr. Eugenie Scott, Susan Gerbic, and Dr. Rodney Schmaltz, the event promises engaging discussions on reason, science, and critical thinking. If you're interested in connecting with others who share secular values, this could be a great opportunity!
Community-driven events like this help strengthen conversations around secularism—check it out if you're in the area!
