Arts & Cultural Organizing Fellowship
Arts and Cultural Organizing is one of the pillars of Ujima’s ecosystem. Ujima believes that artists and cultural workers are an integral part of building the new world; the knowledge, poetic imagination, and inventiveness of artists have always helped the world find new, more liberatory, pathways forward.
The Boston Ujima Project’s Arts and Cultural Organizing Fellowship supports emerging artists and cultural organizers. The Arts and Cultural Organizing Fellowship will be awarded to a member of Ujima who demonstrates a commitment to their artistic practice and a commitment to the principles of the Boston Ujima Project.
The Ujima Arts & Cultural Organizing Fellow will spend two years in an emergent, self-determined program tailored to the needs and interests of the fellow. Applicants should be organizers, musicians, choreographers, visual artists, filmmakers, poets, novelists, playwrights, designers, directors, and performance artists who would find it beneficial to spend two years working alongside Ujima’s vibrant membership body and community.
Proposals are due September 20, 2021. Applicants will be notified in November 2021. The fellowship period begins in January 2022.
Parents and QTBIPOC are strongly encouraged to apply!
In June 2021, the Massachusetts State of Emergency was declared over. While this termination has allowed for businesses to reopen at full capacity and eased restriction, it has also had significant implications on the aid available to those who are still being affected by the pandemic.
The Boston Ujima Project's Worker and Resident Care Fund is currently pausing applications, as the termination of the State of Emergency has changed eligibility requirements for the fund. In order to maintain compliance with IRS guidelines, we are updating our requirements. Applications that were submitted before June 15, 2021, will remain unaffected.
We will update our business and membership bodies as soon as the Worker and Resident Care Fund reopens.
August Rest Period
This month, Ujima's staff is engaging in a practice of rest, revision, and reflection by slowing down to prioritize internal and long-term planning. As such, there will be no #UjimaWednesdays or member team meetings this month. We'll see everyone again in September!
Upcoming Ujima Meetings
We hold Open Meetings every Wednesday at 6PM via Zoom.
