URGENT ACTION needed to protect the NEH and state humanities councils across the country
Hello,
I am writing to you today with an urgent message regarding thefuture of the public humanities in New Hampshire and across the U.S. The proposed cuts to the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) announced this week threaten the very foundation of our work. You can make a difference.
NEH funding is critical to New Hampshire Humanities (NHH), supporting core operations so we can focus our energies on great programming that reaches every corner of the state. NHH currently receives no state funding for public humanities, and matches federal funds through charitable contributions from supporters like you. Cuts to our critical federal funding – nearly half our annual budget – will force us to eliminate grant-making and reduce programming, leaving hundreds of libraries, schools, museums, and nonprofits that you and I value without essential support.
Please stand with us to protect public humanities fundingand help ensure all Granite Staters have access to the stories, history, and conversations that enrich our lives, strengthen our communities, and local economies.
Will you take action to address this critical threat to the humanities in New Hampshire?
How to take action:
-Contact your elected officials - Share this email with your friends and communities -Write a letter or op-ed to your local newspaper -Like and share our social media messages
Last year alone, NHH provided 641 free programs to 26,656 Granite Staters in 172 communities through 251 partner organizations. These programs aren’t luxuries; they are essential. The humanities help us make sense of our world and each other, strengthen communities, and contribute to a more vibrant economy.
While this immediate threat to funding seeks to eliminate programs that you and I love, we're also concerned about a greater erosion underway –the changing narrative of our country’s history, heritage, arts, and culture and how this will impact our partners and our society.
Thank you for your support and please do not hesitate to reach out to me with questions, concerns, or ideas.
