Happy National Pride Month! We've got even more exciting things happening throughout this month. Along with our usual programs & services, Pride: Durham, NC 2026 is officially here, as we are especially glad to formalize our Durham Pride celebrations both in June **AND** in the early Fall. Let's be honest though... We keep it extra queer all year -- 24/7/365! Here's a quick rundown of our Saturday lineup for Pride Month 2026:

  • June 6, 4PM-7PM | Beaver Queen Pageant
  • June 13, 10AM-3PM | OUT On The Block
  • June 20, 1030AM-1230PM | OUT & FREE African Dance
  • June 27, 10AM-2PM | "Our Day Out" Remembrance March & Resource Fair

And in case you missed it, our theme for Pride this year is as follows: "ALWAYS FORWARD, NEVER STRAIGHT: Preserving History, Coming Home." Click here to visit our webpage to learn more about what the theme means to us, and to review our upcoming plans, including an important update: the launch of our special PRIDE campaign to raise $50,000! In alignment with the season, and in honor of Pride, we hope that you'll support the Center's work and operations with a special, generous contribution of unrestricted funds as you're able.

DIRECTORS' CORNER

Vanity Reid Deterville & Raye Dooley, Co-Executive Directors of the LGBTQ Center of Durham
[R]: As we enter National Pride Month, we reflect on how Pride reverberates across both of our lives and hearts. I am proud to be middle-aged, and to be living a life that would have been beyond my wildest dreams as a young person. I am proud of my family, which was created with such intention and care that it serves as an antithesis to the disinvestment that characterizes this socio-political moment.

[V]: I am extremely proud to be a Black woman shaped by Southern Trans experience and to champion this organization forward in concert with a dedicated team. I'm even more proud of embodying the possibility models of leadership to myself and other Trans people with an approach of nurturing that carries from my family at home to my family at work and in the movement.

[R&V]: And we are so, so proud of the Center. Our organization has been in deep transition over the last few years, and it has not always been easy. But we have a great staff of people who are creative, courageous, and kind, and we are becoming something new and beautiful together. We are committed to being a place where people can grieve and celebrate, holding both with complexity and community in a way that is fundamentally queer. We are committed to being a welcoming front porch for queer and trans Durham. We are committed to being here for and with you through it all. Rejoice and be you! Let's make good queer trouble this month.
