We want to thank you for your current and ongoing support, without you we could not do what we do and the community would not have these amazing parks. Please check out what’s new (and old) below.
Message from The President
Hello! Happy New Year and Belated Holiday Wishes!
The end of year of 2022 is now the “please let 2023 be better”. Many of us had our lives disrupted or suffered tragic loss of family, close friends, or our beloved pets. That is why we have dogs that are happy to take us away from that, even if it is for a short time to go for a walk in the dog park, be it in rain, showers, snow, cold, ice and mud; to help us enjoy the our surroundings. It seems to me, that sadness is better handled when we are with our furry companions who grin, run, and play at the dog park!
Message from the Vice President
Ending 2022 and saying hello to 2023
We had a great 2022. We welcomed a few board members and started rolling out events.
Our Trainer in the Park program was well received and we will be bringing that back in April. We hope to expand the program to our other parks as well as incorporate exhibitions such as agility or scent work. Safety starts with good training and while there is not much we can do to police the bad actors, we hope this is a step in the right direction.
We will also be bringing back our Dog Supply Swap! We had an amazing turn out last year and we were able to gather a bunch of supplies for our friends at HSSW.
We also have a few more events in the works. Stay tuned to find out what we have going on! If you're interested in helping out at our events reach out to volunteer@dogpawoffleashparks.org for more info.
Thank you for your donations
This year we wanted to show our appreciation so the board sat together to sign holiday cards and send a little gift to our biggest cheerleaders. Will you be on our list next year?

Park Operations Update
The weather has changed over the last month and we have reached freezing which means the water is shut off to the parks. Please be sure to bring water with you when you come.
Always things going on and things to get done at all of our parks:
Dakota (Pacific) - We are working with the county to relocate the small dog park from west side to east side. We are working with the BSOA who are building new benches for some parks.
Ike (Ross) - We are fundraising for the lower level fencing (phase 3), we are estimating $90,000.00 to complete this and are trying to do that in the coming year. Donations for this project specifically can be made here. For those that may not know, IKE is the only park managed by DOGPAW that is owned by the City of Vancouver in conjunction with BPA. All others are County owned, therefor we receive NO funding for Ike Park from the county as we do the other parks. We are still working with the BSOA to get benches and we are working to widen the new gravel path
Kane (Hockinson) - While tucked away at Hockinson Community Park, Kane is the smallest of our parks, it is also has the most shade tree coverage of our parks, and continues to get many visitors and their dogs during these cold winter days. Kane also is on the project list to get a water line brought in from the baseball felids as well as benches from the BSOA.
Lucky (Minkler) - Always active and crowded, one of the main issues is the walking paths, which has over the years has become uneven, narrowed, and eroded in many places. Underlying weed control cloth has also come to the surface that may be trip hazard as well, we are working hard to address the drainage issues on the walking paths. With thanks to Tree Contractors NW for the load of shredded wood chips), our Park Volunteer Management team (Gary, Jan, Chuck), as well as others, have started to spread the materials out to various areas of the walking paths. This is all done by shovel and wheelbarrow for now, but we are looking into having someone come in with truck and trailer, to help spread it around. Contact volunteer@dogpawoffleashdogparks.org if you can help. We have a new maintenance shed and are working with the BSOA to get benches.
The City of Vancouver shuts off the water for the winter so remember to bring your own water until they turn it back on again.
Reminders
Do not leave your valuables in your car. It takes seconds for someone to break your window and steal things.
Park clean ups will resume in March. As always, we appreciate your help to keep our parks clean!
Board Update
DOGPAW welcomes Emily Evans as the new Treasurer and Gwendolyn Simonds as the new Fundraiser Director! The Board of Directors looks forward to working with you!
Our Board is completely voluntary and unpaid, we do what we do for the dogs of Clark County.
