Dear Beloveds,

At the Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth (UUMFE), as we launch our 2021-2022 program year, our team is feeling the call to connect.

As Aly Tharp, our Director of Programs and Partnerships, shares, “This fall, UUMFE is called to boldness and reverence. We will mobilize UUs in solidarity with Indigenous frontline communities, engage civic leaders to climate justice action, and build beloved communities by increasing staff support for our congregational, young adult, and BIPOC communities.”

There are so many ways to connect with UUMFE, from individual volunteering and support to congregational giving. Particularly at the start of this new program year, one pathway of support is to engage your congregation or community ministry to host an annual special collection (sometimes called sharing the plate). Check out our suggestions and resources to  "Share the Plate" with the UU Ministry for Earth.

In the months ahead, the Winter Solstice (December 21), World Water Day (March 22) or Earth Day (April 22) all offer great opportunities for special collections to support the programs and partnerships vital to our ministries.

I’m humbled by the number of congregations that have shared generously with UUMFE in the past. Will you ask your congregation to designate the UU Ministry for Earth as a recipient of a special collection for the year ahead?

With your support we hope to build our capacity for accountable advocacy, stronger partnerships, and inspirational worship to center interdependence and build environmental justice.

Are you feeling the call to connect?

Yours on the journey,

Daniel Lawlor, Co-Director, Fundraising and Communications

P.S. A special thank you to all the donors to our successful   summer give away. Wow! You have the choice of many worthwhile community partners to share personal and congregational resources. I appreciate your commitment to and passionate engagement with UUMFE.

Sign on to support UUA Divestment, organized by UU Young Adults

During this past General Assembly, a group of young adults initiated a Responsive Resolution calling on the UU Common Endowment Fund (UUCEF) to “immediately and completely divest its holdings from financial institutions currently funding the Line 3 pipeline.”

This resolution asked faith leaders to reflect our shared values in the UUA investment practices and passed with 80% support. Since then, UU Young Adults have been in ongoing relation with the UUCEF to facilitate the process of divestment. Currently, the group of young adults is circulating an open letter addressed to the UUCEF to re-emphasize the widespread support for divestment and to condemn the violence that is happening at the construction Line 3.

If you feel called to support this campaign, please join in signing this open letter by clicking the button below.

Inviting all Black, Indigenous People of Color Unitarian Universalists to gather Wednesday, September 29, 5-6:30 pm PT / 6-7:30 pm MT / 7-8:30 pm CT /  8-9:30 pm ET -- via Zoom

After a summer of rest and reflection, the BIPOC Caucus of UUMFE will resume its monthly meetings on Wednesday, September 29. We invite all BIPOC people to come gather to reflect on this moment of climate devastation, exchange our aspirations and learn how our UU values can strengthen our commitments. The caucus is a space where the challenges of racism, and environmental and climate injustice, may be lifted up, and where substantive conversations about such challenges can sustain and nourish our commitments.  During this meeting, we will reflect on the Caucus's activities during the past year and get organized to develop a presence for the caucus among UUs during the next year.

INSPIRATION

SideWithLoveActionCenter.png

Three cheers for the successful launch of the Side with Love Action Center!

Sunday, September 12 was a great day for Unitarian Universalism.

Side with Love is a public advocacy campaign sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Association that seeks to harness love’s power to stop oppression. UU Ministry for Earth is a proud partner of Side with Love.

With the launch of a new national Action Center for Side with Love, Unitarian Universalist congregations and partner ministries (like UU Ministry for Earth) have more support and capacity for trainings, workshops and accountable advocacy to cultivate love and justice in our communities.

As Rev. Ranwa Hammamy writes, “Today we face...  tides of oppression together, knowing that we are rooted in something stronger, more powerful, and more true than their violence. Today, tomorrow, and every day after, we will build interconnected teams, take impactful action, and change the world with our collective love.”

Side with Love Fall 2021: What is love calling you to do?

Even in these heartbreak times, the dynamic team at Side with Love reminds us to accompany one another and work for healing change.

Over the next four weeks, consider attending one or more of the following Side with Love online events (listed below), and spread the news among your communities of care.
