New Event at Rowe
PoZitive Impact
Hello!
I am writing to let you know about a new retreat called “PoZitive Impact” at the Rowe Center (a 100-year-old UU Camp and Conference Center). In 1985, as the HIV/AIDS crisis was terrorizing gay communities across the nation, Rowe took the bold step of opening its doors and creating a public weekend for men who love men. Nearly four decades later, the Rowe Center is excited to offer this new program to continue their tradition of support for our community on Memorial Day Weekend 2025.
About the retreat
This retreat is for men who have been living with HIV from four months to forty years. It is also for those men whose lives have been deeply impacted by this virus, whether they lost lovers, circles of friends or both. In this retreat we will explore themes of survivor’s guilt, complex issues around disclosure, dating, serodiscordant relationships, medical and practical issues for long-term survivors, meaning-making, faith and fate.
Many of the men who might attend this retreat were never able to return to work. Others have spent decades moving in and out of employment. Many have unique physical and mental ailments as a result of decades of living with the virus and taking extensive drug regimes. It is our desire to make this program as accessible to as many as possible. If you would like to read more about the retreat and donate please visit the Rowe website.
If you know anybody who might want to attend or donate in memory of someone, please forward this email along. We hope to see you at this event Memorial Day Weekend (May 23-26, 2025)!
Sincerely,
Clay Connor
