Dear Alumni and Friends,
Junior Leadership, LEAD Institute, and the Signature Classes of 2022 are coming to a close. On May 9th and 10th we are bringing back the Poverty Simulation for the Signature Class and Junior Leadership. If you missed the poverty simulation your Signature class year and would like to participate, please contact me at colleen@leadershipmedinacounty.org.
At Leadership Medina County, our team is continuously learning and serving on local committees and boards. Recently, I participated on the National Leadership Committee for a new research brief spotlighting children from low-income families. ALICE in Focus: Children reveals that while 12 million children nationwide were in poverty pre-pandemic, another 24 million lived in households that are ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). ALICE families earn above the federal poverty level but less than the cost of basics.
The brief is the first in a new research series, ALICE In Focus, developed by United For ALICE – a driver of innovation, research, and action to improve life for households in financial hardship. Click https://unitedforalice.org/focus-children to access the ALICE in Focus: Children interactive online dashboards as well as the national and state-level research briefs. Opportunities to participate on leadership committees like this help prepare me for our poverty simulation and plan important experiences on human services day.

"In 2020, the pandemic put a hold on the creation of a new strategic plan. Now we are eager to hear how the community has changed, what the needs are, and how MCDL can continue to support our community with all our services and new ones that may evolve from the plan." - Tina Sabol, MCDL Community Engagement Manager.
