It has been an eventful summer; perhaps a little too eventful. Beryl impacted us all, but it is disasters like this that bring out the best in people. So many stepped up to plate to help community members get back on their feet! The Outreach Center of West Houston cannot serve our community alone, so thanks for being a critical component in helping our community thrive!
July Highlights:
In the wake of Beryl, the Outreach Center of West Houston was blessed to still have power. We were honored to be able to open our doors to the community as a cooling center. According to data pulled by FamilyPoint Resoures, the highest point of visitors totaled 67 people!
Although we were able to open our doors to the public, the center was not immune to the effects of Beryl. We are proud to say that we were able to repair our roof pretty quickly, but we did lose a beautiful tree to what we believe was lightning.
Earlier this month, we had the honor of meeting up with our newest friends at the H Town Dream Center. In our line of work, it is always important to be aware of community partners that may be able to add to our community impact. When we work together, and join forces among nonprofits, we can do so much more!
Fourteen more families benefited from our Houston Furniture Bank partnership. To help us with future vouchers, visit our donation page to specify a donation for such use. (Members of the public cannot get furniture directly through the bank and have to have a community partner to be able to do so, hence our being a partner.)
You are invited to join us for the 19th annual "We're Here for You" Golf Tournament at Riverbend Country Club. We are looking for this year's big title sponsor, as well as other event and auction item sponsors. Reach out to us if you are interested at info@oc-wh.org.
We are making plans to bring back a bigger and better community ArtReach Market that will not only have local art, artisan goods, and music, but also highlight all of the amazing work being done by area nonprofits. Stay tuned, reach out if interested in being on a committee or presenting, and save the date in general for some early holiday shopping!
Consider filling a gender neutral backpack or two for an elementary, junior high or high school student with school supplies like pencils, pens, glue sticks, a notebook or two and other supplies and bring it to Family Night Out.
