News & Events for Health Empowerment // June 30, 2021

Thirty million children are served school lunch daily. While eating habits start at home, school lunches play a role in shaping children’s food choices and impact their health. Plant-based nutrition has the power to give kids a healthy start and rein in the rising number of children suffering from chronic disease, including asthma, diabetes, and obesity.

The Healthy Future Students & Earth Act, recently introduced in Congress by New York state legislators Nydia Velazquez and Jamaal Bowman, would provide grants to schools to offer culturally appropriate plant-based meals and milk options that improve student health, fight climate change, and advance racial equity. Plant Powered Metro New York is proud to be one of 100+ organizations that have endorsed this bill!

Please consider taking one of these actions in support of the Healthy Future Students & Earth Act:

  • Fill out the online action alert here, organized by Friends of the Earth.
  • Write a personal letter to your representative using the email template in this advocacy toolkit.
  • Post about the Act and why you support it on social media, using the hashtag #ClimateFriendlyFood.
  • Are you part of an organization that would like to endorse this bill? Complete this form to add your organization to the list of supporters.

And talk to us about making it personal: If you’re a parent, teacher, or school administrator who cares about healthy food at your own school, PPMNY can support you in taking a powerful next step. Reach out to us:!
