EcoAction Arlington is seeking students interested in joining its leadership as a student member of its Board of Directors. This is a great opportunity for students with an interest in our environment to support EcoAction Arlington's mission to create a sustainable community by improving our natural environment, encouraging environmentally-friendly behaviors, ensuring environmental justice, and addressing the climate crisis. Student board members must be middle and high school students living in Arlington County and the deadline for expressing interest is August 15. Please visit our website for more information.

Learn how you can make a meaningful difference in our community as part of the 2026–2027 cohort of EcoAmbassadors. This climate and energy-centered volunteer training and community engagement program, co-managed by EcoAction Arlington and the Virginia Cooperative Extension, empowers everyday people to lead grassroots environmental efforts. 

To help you learn more, EcoAction Arlington is hosting an informal summer social. Come out to chat with the program coordinators and meet alumni from the past cohort.

Annual Fall Stream Cleanup
10:30AM-12:30 PM @Barcroft Park

Our Annual Trash Tally, in partnership with the Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup and Clean Virginia Waterways, will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 10:00am-12:30pm. Participants will break out into small groups to tally the collected trash using the CleanSwell app. Families, individuals, and groups are welcome. Registration is required. Space is limited so register soon!

Meet Our New EcoAmbassador Program Coordinator

Kim Fredrich has joined our team as the EcoAmbassadors program coordinator. Bill Campbell, the previous EcoAmbassadors coordinator, will be staying on through the end of September to facilitate the transition. Welcome Kim and thank you Bill for your intrepid steering of the Energy Masters program and the transition to EcoAmbassadors. We are very appreciative of his hard work and dedication to both EcoAmbassadors and Energy Masters.

Chanel Figueroa was the happy prize winner of a gift basket (valued at $275) of eco-friendly goodies awarded by EcoAmbassadors at LibraryFest on July 18. Thank you to the volunteers and sponsors who helped create a memorable day celebrating Arlington’s 250th Birthday at Central Library.

SUSTAINABILITY TIP

Increase the energy efficiency of your fridge by allowing air to circulate better; clean out food that has gone bad or plan to use food that you may be stockpiling. That forgotten pack of frozen strawberries is sure to make a refreshing smoothie!

• Ongoing | Invasive species removal - Volunteering to remove invasive species and similar opportunities can earn you credit towards your Stormwater Utility bill and helps care for our environment. 
• AUG 12-16 |  The Arlington County Fair is happening August 12-16 at Thomas Jefferson Community Center, 3501 2nd St. S. Loaded with family fun, games, rides, exhibitions and vendors, there’s something for everyone! Visit EcoAction Arlington’s booth at the fair from Friday - Sunday.

• Summertime Cleanup is an environmental project developed by senior students at Yorktown High School. The aim of the project is to conduct community cleanup programs and promote awareness about the environment to protect local parks and waterways and inspire young people. They are currently looking for new volunteers. All ages are welcome! Together, we can build a cleaner, greener Arlington one cleanup at a time.
