Join HBL and the Manago family this Saturday, April 4th for Zach’s Ride. We invite cyclists of all ages and experience to join us at the Hawai‘i State Capitol for a short- or long-distance ride followed by sign waving. Together we will demonstrate the continued need for safer streets shared by people who walk, bike, roll, and drive.
National Bike Month in Hawai‘i is a month-long celebration of cycling that encourages people across the islands to ride bikes for transportation, recreation, and health. Organized by the Hawai‘i Bicycling League along with community partners, this month features:
On May 2nd, HBL is joining HLTA’s Visitor Industry Charity Walk. You can join us at the walk, help fundraise, or donate to support BikeEd. This is a 4.5 mile loop through Waikīkī, starting and finishing at Magic Island. There are checkpoints with food, beverages, and entertainment along the course. A great way to kick off Bike Month and support HBL!
Update From the Hawaiʻi Capitol
It is just past the mid-point of the 2026 legislative session. HBL’s priority bill HB2021, to update e-bike definitions and regulations in state traffic code, is continuing to move forward. However there is an Action Alert with details about an amendment we are OPPOSING that could outlaw e-bikes on public school campuses statewide. A decision-making hearing in the Senate's JUD committee is scheduled on April 1st.
Did you know that Prince Kūhiō was a cyclist who did a circle-island ride of Oʻahu in 1893, raced on a velodrome in Kewalo in 1897, and was an early advocate for bicycles and safe streets? In honor of Prince Kūhiō Day last week, HBL published a historical deep-dive into Prince Kūhiō's cycling history on our website. Check it out here!
These rides are made possible by HBL memberships and donations.

It’s Electric!
E-bikes continue to be a hot topic in Hawai‘i’s media, and HBL is staying on the education by holding an E-bike Education Day at the Hawai‘i State Capitol for legislators to learnwhat low-speed electric bicyclesare and the differences between these street-legal bicyclesandhigh-powered e-motos made for the dirt tracks. HBL is also bringing e-bike education to Maui and the Big Island this month with hands-on learning opportunities focused-specifically on e-bike safety.
Biking in wet conditions holds its own challenges but even after the rain clears there are things cyclists should watch out for including potholes, gravel, tree debris, and puddles. Riding through puddles might take you back to your hanabata days, but unless that puddle is filled with crystal clear water (which it likely won't be!) it’s best to avoid them since anything could be lurking beneath. 🌧 Read here for more tips on riding in & after the rain ❯❯
