Help us reach 10k actions! Join the Memorial Day Fieldtrip with UU Drawdown Initiative

After a brief Zoom presentation on the role of refrigerants & hydrofluorocarbons in global warming (spoiler: they warm the planet wayyyy more than CO2) you’re invited to head out to local supermarkets on a hunt for climate friendly refrigerants. Photograph the data on your cell phones and share findings on the Climate Friendly Supermarkets map. Attend a short Zoom presentation at any of these times:

  • Sunday, May 30 at 1pm PT / 2 MT / 3 CT / 4 ET
  • Monday, May 31 at 10am PT / 11 MT / 12pm CT / 1 ET

Living Up to Our Treaties: Multifaith Reflection on Showing Up For Indigenous-led Resistance and Treaty People Gathering Q&A
Tuesday, June 1 at 5-7pm PT / 6 MT / 7 CT / 8 ET

Join Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light (MNIPL) for their monthly June Community Connector webinar. The first hour will offer reflections on what it means for people of faith and spiritual grounding to be in solidarity with Indigenous leaders covering how fossil fuel projects like the Line 3 oil pipeline deny the treaty rights of the Anishinaabe people and the responsibility settlers and non-Native people have in advocating for Indigenous sovereignty, particularly by resisting Line 3. The second hour will be a live Q&A about the Treaty People Gathering, June 5-8, when Indigenous leaders and allies will be gathering in massive numbers in northern Minnesota to honor the treaties, protect the water, and defend the climate.

Learn more and consider attending as part of the multifaith delegation.

Strengthening Local Climate Commitments: Policy Actions to Decarbonize the Concrete Industry
Wednesday, June 2 at 5pm PT / 6 MT / 7 CT / 8 ET

Join this monthly Strengthen Local Climate Commitments call to learn more about Policy Actions to Decarbonize the Concrete Industry, featuring special guest speakers Luke Kimball, UU Pathways, TX, and Eric Dunford, both with Carbon Cure Technologies,  recent winners of the Carbon XPrize. Concrete is responsible for at least 7% of annual CO2 emissions worldwide, and is the second largest source of industrial emissions in the US. Learn more about how cement and concrete influence national emissions and policy proposals and ideas that are being piloted to spur innovation and decarbonize this industry.  Policies can be implemented at the Federal, State and Local levels as well, and also support Environmental and Climate Justice Goals. Attending this call also counts towards the UU Drawdown Initiative!

World Environment Day
Saturday, June 5

This year’s World Environment Day will launch the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030)! The United Nations has released an ecosystem restoration playbook and there are many online events diving into this topic that you can check out, including official programs and a crowdsourced list (from around the world; if you’re doing something for World Environment Day this weekend, add it to the map!).

Join the Treaty People Gathering to Stop Line 3 & Multifaith Delegation
June 5-8

If you are able, the time is now to come to the land. Water Protectors and allies are called to gather in Northern Minnesota to stop construction and tell the world that the days of tar sands pipelines are over. People from all faith traditions and spiritual practices are welcome to join the multifaith delegation. Minnesota UU Social Justice Alliance (MUUSJA) is working with Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light (MNIPL), Honor the Earth and others to coordinate logistics, especially for UU's coming in from out of state.
