Five decades of advocating, educating, and coming together to celebrate bikes! Join us in recognizing the past efforts as well as supporting our efforts moving forward. We're hosting our Annual Benefit Dinner on June 20th at Kupu's Ho‘okupu Center. We also have merchandise collaboration in the works with an awesome local artist. We have big fundraising goals that we'd love you to be a part of helping to reach.
With an official proclamation from Honolulu's Mayor, May is officially Bike Month! We were joined by partners from the City, State, Biki, and League of American Bicyclists to celebrate this proclamation, as well as the City's Bicycle Friendly Community silver level award. We held a kick-off event on Sunday at Thomas Square.
We are so excited for these upcoming events and the support we have already been receiving from elected officials and partners. This Friday, May 9th, we're showing a collection of short films by Filmed By Bike at Patagonia Honolulu. The following week is National Bike to Work Week and we're hosting energizer stations along King St. Click below to read up on all the events happening this month!
On April 27th, over 700 people came to O‘ahu's North Shore to ride and support our great cycling scene. We saw hundreds of smiles and shakas as riders came back to Kaiaka Bay Beach park and ride under the finish arch.
This ride is not only a celebration of cycling but also serves as a fundraiser to support HBL’s mission of promoting bicycling in Hawai‘i. Everyone at Hawai‘i Bicycling League is thankful for a successful event and we hope to see you at the Honolulu Century Ride and Aloha Fun Ride on September 28th.
Bicycling Wins @ The Capitol
HBL is part of a movement to make safer streets for all. As we celebrate Bike Month, we are grateful for everyone who helped get key priority bills across the finish line during the 2025 Hawai‘i legislative session. You can read more about these here.
2025 Legislative Wrap Up
The Legislature raced towards their “Sine Die” finish line on May 2nd. There were key wins including funding for Safe Routes to Schools and essential statutory updates relating to e-bikes and safe riding. Some bills made it all the way, only to die in conference committee when they failed to get FIN/WAM clearance. Read the update for details.
Mahalo to Our HMC Volunteers!
Holy moly! Over 140 volunteers helped us put on an epic Haleʻiwa Metric Century Ride last week. Mahalo nui to all of you those who gave your time, energy, and aloha to making this event great. If you've volunteered with HBL this year, stay tuned later in May for details and invite to our July Volunteer Appreciation Party!
There's no better time to ramp up your cycling game than during Bike Month! Whether you want to be able to repair a flat on your bike with confidence or jump on an e-bike for the first time HBL is the place to boost your cycling skills, knowledge, expertise, and riding enjoyment!
Want to trigger a green light quicker for you in the protected bike lane? Position your bike directly over the pavement markings (imbedded in the asphalt) to activate the bicycle detection sensor for a faster green light.
On Saturday, April 14th, Hawaiʻi Bicycling League rolled out with KVIBE for the 2025 Ahupuaʻa Ride. Put on by Kōkua Kalihi Valleyʻs KVIBE youth program, this community ride descends the length of the Kalihi Ahupuaʻa from mauka to makai. Check out our post for photos of this year's ride - and happy 20th anniversary to KVIBE! 🥳
