Great Tomato Taste Test
Great Tomato Taste Test, 2 to 4 p.m Sunday, August 18 at the Sustain DuPage garden, is a celebration of tomatoes in all their colors, flavors, and forms. Taste and test heirloom and open pollinated varietiesand learn how easy it is to save your own seeds during our seed saving demonstration. Snacks and beverages will be provided.
Tickets are limited so reserve yours soon! Sustain DuPage members can use their special code at checkout for a 10% discount. This event will be in a vegetarian and intoxicant free campus. Bring a lawn chair and get ready to vote for all your favorites! The winners will be planted in the garden and included in the seed library next year.
If you would like to bring your own heirloom and open pollinated tomato to the tasting to share, contact info@sustaindupage.com for details NO LATER than August 10th. This event is a collaboration between all of our garden, seed cache and cooking nights projects, and in partnership with the Downers Legacy Seed Library.
Volunteers in our Grow Out Crew and Garden projects will receive free admission with the donation of their heirloom and open pollinated tomato varieties. Contact Seed Cache Organizer Elena Nichol NO LATER than Aug. 10 to reserve your space. Also, Cooking Nights Organizer David Bravos is looking for up to three volunteers to receive free entry if they help prep and serve tomatoes for the event. Contact him to reserve your spot on a first come basis.
The fresh produce we provide to the Glen House Food Pantry and the People's Resource Center on a weekly basis is greatly appreciated. As of July 24th, we have donated 39 pounds of fresh herbs/produce from all of our gardens! Even a few items from each person will add up to a significant donation. Thank you, Gardeners!
Please remember, you can drop off your extra herbs/produce at the SD Garden every Wednesday 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Please place them near the white cooler at the entrance arbor, in a box/bag with your name on it.
If you would like to participate as a gardener/grower, a FSS volunteer or have questions about the program, here are links to email Diane or Betty.
Seed Cache
Save glass spice jars for Seed Cache! They will be used to organize and store our stockpile of seeds. Similar sized jars such as baby food or yeast jars work also. You don't even have to clean them or remove the labels -- we will sterilize prior to use. Please email Betty to make arrangements.
