Dear Pam:

A new year. A new name.

We had some feedback that the name "Tidbits from Marci" suggested that the contents were just me chatting about nothing significant. In fact, the "Tidbits" usually have some pretty important content.

So we changed the name!

The monthly newsletter is sent to all chapter board members. If you have someone not receiving it, please let us know so we can follow up.

Yours in the Outdoors,

Marci

TRAINING

Thanks to everyone who participated this week in our first two training sessions - a get acquainted for {especially} new Chapter chairs and an introduction to creating a budget hosted by Andre Weltman and Mary Soderberg of the Friends of Pine Grove Furnace.

We forgot to record the Chapter chairs get together, but an important part of the session was a review of the annual report. So Pam and I will get together and re-record that. Expect to see it soon on the Annual Report accordion.

We DID record the budget creation session and the video as well as additional relevant pieces can be found in Friends Resources in a new Creating a Budget accordion.

Three additional sessions are on the docket as below. We will record and post the sessions in the event you cannot join us.

1/20: Treasurers - ask that all treasurers plan to attend this refresher (or schedule an individual coaching session). We are finding significant gaps in process and protocol, some of which jeopardizes our "good standing" for all chapters and PPFF as a whole.
2/9: Chairs and Secretaries (taking minutes, building agendas, meeting process)
2/24: Review of financial policies [Small Games of Chance (SGOC), silent auctions, grants, etc.]

DO

Thank you to Jenna’s hard work, the mail situation at the PPFF office has been rectified. Feel free to send paper copies of your COI and annual reports to the office.

Also, if you haven’t already done so, we need your sales inventory ASAP. The inventory is to reflect what you had on hand at the end of 2021 and will be submitted as part of the audit. We have only received a few thus far.

KNOW

The board approved a chainsaw policy at the August board meeting. The policy was written in partnership with DCNR and is designed to increase safety and reduce the question of "what qualifies." The chainsaw policy is attached, and we will be working toward bringing Peter Jensen back to PA later this year for another session (or two).

Feel free to email Pam and let her know that you are interested; she'll keep a list to make sure you are among the first to know details.

We are also again working on first aid training. It is imperative for sawyers to have this training. First aid training is also an appropriate Friends expense if there is a desire to do it locally.

SHARE

On the heels of the health benefits videos we shared in the December Tidbits comes a new video reinforcing the economic benefits of the outdoors. Check it out on the PPFF website. And feel free to share it with your networks.

RESOURCE REMINDER:

The PPFF website is a great source of information and guidance with forms you can use and information you should know.
