LAST WEEK AT CARES

Last Thursday, Chris Herren made a profound impact on our New Canaan community, and we at CARES are incredibly thankful. His powerful message resonated with NCHS students in the afternoon and parents and community members in the evening—both standing-room-only events.

Chris bravely shared his personal journey, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the first day, not the last. His honesty and vulnerability sparked meaningful conversations about early substance use, judgment-free discussions, and the choices that shape our children’s futures.

A heartfelt thank you to Chris for his courage and dedication to changing the conversation. We are also deeply grateful to our community partners—Silver Hill Hospital, NC Rams All Sports Booster Club, New Canaan Public Schools, New Canaan Library, and St. Luke’s School—for making this event possible.

If you missed the program, the Chris Herren Program Notes can be found HERE. You can use these notes to have meaningful conversations with your family about the effects of substances on the adolescent brain and more!

CARES and the New Canaan High School Parent Association hosted an insightful session on Nutrition & Wellness for Teens, led by Dr. Katie and Dr. Becky. Attendees gained valuable knowledge on how proper nutrition and movement impact teen health. The discussion covered food as fuel, emphasizing simple, nutritious meal choices, as well as fitness strategies to enhance flexibility, mobility, and injury prevention. The session also explored the science behind digestion, blood sugar balance, and exercise variety, helping parents better understand how to support their teens’ well-being. The Program Notes can be found HERE.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this informative and engaging conversation!
