New York City Municipal Retirees
Hello Retirees!
We are in copay territory. Doctors should not be collecting copays or deductibles, they should be billing Medicare and then bill Senior Care and you will get a bill for the deductible and eventually a Copay! They should not be asking you upfront, as they do not know what Medicare has or has not processed. If they insist, pay it and keep a receipt. You will need to check the EOB to make sure what you paid the Doctor is reflected in Medicare. We are working on fixing this.
Also, according to the discussions with the City, you are only to be charged ONE COPAY PER VISIT. So if you see the Doctor and he also does blood work, that is only ONE copay NOT TWO!
If there are issues, please complete the copay survey below.
There are no updates on litigation - but plenty of homework! We had a great turnout last week in our LiVE with City Council Candidate Edafe Okporo. Thank you for listening!
When we find candidates willing to take the time to listen and understand our issue, we need to support them. Edafe is running against Shaun Abreu who has not helped us AT ALL in this fight. We need a councilmember who understand the issue and is willing to protect his constituents!
Councilwoman Kristy Marmorato has supported us and is on our legislation, Intro 1096. She has family this impacts and was in healthcare herself - so we support her to retain her seat.
Councilman Chris Marte sponsored our bill and he is running for re-election and has a challenger. We will also be supporting CM Marte because he too support Retirees!
And of course, there is only ONE mayoral candidate who put in writing he would would support fixing the 3 issues our organization presented to him were our concern;
Not being forced into an MA plan and not being charged to stay in Traditional Medicare.
Our Medicare B reimbursement should be returned to us in less than 16-22 months. Monthly is preferred but quarterly would be accepted.
Our family health coverage dies with us - we want that coverage to be extended 30-90 days so the surviving family can secure coverage during the grieving process and adjustment.
The only candidate to promise to help us fix these issues was Jim Walden. NO OTHER MAYORAL CANDIDATE HAS COMMITTED TO SUPPORTING US IN WRITING TO DATE.
Since that is the case, we are currently only supporting Jim. He will be joining us Friday, January 17th, 2025 at 6 PM on the Weekly LiVE Update. Come ask your questions!
