Stuff the Bus Program Needs Help to Provide 1,800 Kids with School Supplies
It may be summer, but our annual Stuff the Bus program is in full swing to ensure every kid has the supplies they need to start the next school year off right. Many families are struggling to make ends meet, and the program expects to help a record-breaking 1,800 kids this year.
We need the community’s help to make this happen! No child should have to worry about how they will get necessary supplies.
Just $20 will provide a student with a backpack filled with school supplies to set them up for success. Please consider helping children in our community with a donation to the Stuff the Bus program. Any donation, big or small, will help us reach our $20,000 fundraising goal.
Donate online today using the button below. To donate via check, mail to Sunshine Place, P.O. Box 307, Sun Prairie, WI 53590 or drop off between 9am and 3pm Mon.-Fri. Checks should note “Stuff the Bus” in the memo line.
The Stuff the Bus program is led by a group of community volunteers, and Founding sponsors include the Bank of Sun Prairie and Larry Smokey Anderson - American Family Insurance Agent.
Local Food Pantries Share Joint Message About Rising Demand
This week, a coalition of 36 Dane County food pantries shared a message highlighting the need for community-wide support and long term solutions to address the rising number of people facing food insecurity.
This joint message comes as pantries, including the Sun Prairie Food Pantry, are spending more than ever to keep shelves stocked to meet the record demand for help. Visits to food pantries across the county have more than doubled in the last two years, driven by higher food and rent prices and decreased federal assistance, with no ceiling in sight.
An average of 75 families per day visit the Sun Prairie Food Pantry, with some days seeing more than 100 families. Half of the resources provided at the pantry are for senior citizens and kids. And more clients than many people realize are working families who need help making ends meet.
You can read the full letter published in the Wisconsin State Journal and shared at a joint press conferenceHERE.
Thank you for your continued generosity in helping our neighbors facing food insecurity!
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
The impact of Sunshine Place programs is only possible through the kindness of community members who provide support through volunteer time and donations. Below are just a few recent highlights of this generosity:
We are overwhelmed with gratitude for all of the recent donations to The Bed Lady Program! So many amazing individuals sent in a variety of bedding for our upcoming bed deliveries. We are so grateful to be part of such a kind and generous community. There are certainly going to be a lot of happy kiddos this summer!
Thank you to everyone who helped kick off our Summer Lunch Program by providing funds and volunteers to make sandwiches and pack lunches! A special thank you to Sun Prairie United Methodist Church, Heartland Church, Team Anjani, and Sun Prairie Utilities! There are still dates available for sponsorship.
