Last week, Oak Ridge National Laboratory Researcher Dr. Xiaobing Liu presented on IGSHPA’s monthly Town Hall webinar and discussed ongoing analysis being conducted in partnership with Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory and National Laboratory of the Rockies. This research builds on the groundbreaking 2023 geothermal impact analysis, which made that case for ground-source/geothermal heat pumps as a powerful grid asset.
However, the 2023 report did not include cost data tied to installations. Without cost information to line up against the benefits, utilities, legislators, regulators, and other decision-makers cannot justify the implementation of policies and programs to support system deployment.
We need your help!
Dr. Liu and the rest of the National Lab researchers need real world cost data from actual ground-source/geothermal projects. If you have ever quoted, installed, or managed a project, the research team needs details on costs. They have put together a survey that can easily be completed through an online form.
Thus far, only a tiny handful of industry professionals have responded. It is easy to assume that others will do the work and your contribution isn’t needed. But this is truly an “All Hands on Deck” moment for the industry. With valid, verifiable cost information tied to major grid impacts, the industry will be poised to launch into growth we’ve long dreamed of.
The survey can be accessed at this link:

You can also upload project cost documents, past quotes, and other related information via the survey portal. If you have questions, please reach out to info@igshpa.org and liux2@ornl.gov.
Thank you for stepping up and contributing to this important effort. |
