Dear Pam:

Thank you to all who provided their annual report and conflict of interest statements. There are still several outstanding chapters—please submit these items ASAP as we need them for updating insurance policies to ensure everyone is covered and for the audit. The conflict-of-interest policies also protect you if someone files a complaint. Complete the COI online at the Google form available.

Please also remember that if your group is considering a grant application, these items (annual report and COI) must be filed with PPFF for the current fiscal year. Prior to making a grant application, the PPFF Grant Request form must be completed, preferably at least four weeks in advance. The form can be found in Friends Resources - Fundraising Policies or downloaded right here.

Thank you for all that you do!

Best Practices for Membership Recruitment & Retention

Join master trainer, Chad Barger, CFRE, ACNP for a webinar on marketing and growing a thriving membership program.  Chad will provide specific, actionable steps that you can take to expand your membership program by both recruiting new members and improving your renewal rate.  Templates and resources will be provided to help attendees implement the recommendations.

TRAINING TOO

Hot on the heels of the officers' training Zooms earlier this year (available on Chapter Resources), we're offering two roundtable discussions on subjects of interest to a more limited number of groups (although all are welcome)

Do you operate a retail space at your park or forest? Chat with others who do as well and get some good ideas (and avoid some pitfalls).

Are you responsible for trails and trail maintenance? Do you have a committee or program specializing in these skills?

KNOW

We had several requests recently for checks or reimbursements for funds going to a private individual as a gift or donation. Unfortunately, while we understand the desire to recognize someone or to assist, donated funds may not be spent in that manner. If you want to give a gift, donate to a hospital fund, or support an individual, the proper route would be to pass the hat among board members.

Bear in mind, too, that providing gift cards to state employees is a violation of the state gift ban and, while thoughtful, may create problems for the recipient.

KNOW TOO

2024 is PPFF's 25th anniversary. We'll be working the celebration into everything we do and have an anniversary logo in the event you'd like to use it.

SHARE

The Governor’s proposed budget is very positive for state parks and forests. In addition to moving DCNR away from Oil and Gas Funds, which fluctuate, it includes additional funding for the Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps, funding for trail maintenance and improvements (including staff dedicated to trails), and capitol project money. PPFF supports the Governor’s proposed budget for DCNR.

Speaking of the PA Outdoor Corps—there are opportunities available for all crews. More information is available on the DCNR page linked above and here again. Share with anyone you think would be interested!
