Judaism as Evolving Civilization
“Mr. Chairman, Rabbi Cohen, Cantor Fellah and friends, As you heard, the subject last night was Jewish identification. That is a question of who is a Jew or what is Jew? The conclusion I arrived at from last night’s lecture was that at the present time, we are not in a position to answer that question. And I suggest that the only way to answer it, is to organize a group of experts, specialists, namely scholars, thinkers, religionists, and to urge them to arrive at a definition of the term ‘Jew’...”
What God Should Mean to Us
“Those of you who were present last night will recall that I insisted upon an important distinction between the term ‘Judaism’ and ‘Jewish religion.’ I indicated that Judaism is to be understood in a sense analogous to the term ‘Americanism’ in which we include every thing in American life that is distinctive of and all that constitutes living in America...”
