Maine's First Ship is Certified!

After weeks of safety training and a visit recently from the U.S. Coast Guard, Maine's First Ship is very pleased to announce that their reconstruction of the 1607 pinnace Virginia has received a Certificate of Inspection as a dockside attraction.

This will enable them to have more visitors on deck when at their home dock or visiting other ports. 

Meeting this milestone is a great start to the summer!

Overnight Voyages & Dockside Tours with Call of the Sea

Call of the Sea's crew is preparing for upcoming overnight voyages! The crew and a few volunteers are embarking on overnight voyages to strengthen their sea legs and test the ship's systems yet again. Youth summer camps are coming up for June, July, and August. A teen voyage is set for July. For adult voyages, there are two options in August: one overnight and one five-day voyage. The voyages are so very immersive- there is a greater chance to see a variety of wildlife, to find the rhythm of tall ship work, to see the stars as they are meant to be witnessed. Guests can learn to crew a tall ship or simply soak in the views, read, and relax.

The dockside tours at the Port of Redwood City and Richmond went well and the ship saw hundreds of guests - over 500 people at Richmond alone. The visitors were sent a treasure hunt and got to learn about maritime life during their search. Some students were sent aloft to test their mettle. The Matthew Turner expanded her reach and now more people are aware of the educational programming offered aboard. Summer looks promising.
