Places for Students for LEAF, our flagship 7-week summer program for middle and high school students, are going fast!
The program nurtures young people's passion for environmental conservation, regenerative agriculture, science, technology, art and math. We are cultivating the next generation of leaders to tackle global challenges such as food insecurity, water conservation and climate change.
Students will:
Learn sustainable gardening practices – from planting and propagation to composting and soil health.
Observe pollinators up close – including beekeeping and participation in the Bumble Bee Atlas Community Science Project.
Harvest and donate fresh produce – helping local families facing food insecurity through our food bank partnerships.
Get creative with hands-on projects – like leather making and garden-to-table cooking.
Connect with like-minded peers and develop leadership skills in environmental action.
Program Location: LEAF Urban Farm, 38339 Mission Blvd, Fremont
Program Dates: June 22 to August 6 | Mondays & Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Citizens for Better Community Honor LEAF as 2026 Beneficiary
We’re so honored to have been selected as one of the beneficiaries of Citizens for Better Communities (CBC)’s Spring Gala, alongside our partner Tri-City Volunteers. We each received a giant $5,000 check during the celebration on April 19th, which welcomed the Chinese Year of the Horse, celebrated Chinese American culture, and honored CBC volunteers and community members for their outstanding service and contributions to the community.
The funding will go towards our educational and food production programs. Thank you, CBC, for choosing LEAF as your beneficiary and for our partnership!
Bay Area Companies Choose LEAF for Earth Month Volunteering
This April, we welcomed teams from Kaiser Permanente, Ivalua, and Seagate to the LEAF Urban Farm for Earth Month corporate volunteer days. Together, employees helped weed, mulch, clear beds, plant crops, and support the ongoing build-out of our Urban Farm.
For many volunteers, the experience was a chance to step outside the office, reconnect with nature, and contribute to something tangible in the local community. Dr. Seema Sidhu, a Kaiser Obstetrician who participated, said in a recent Tri-City Voice article, “Earth Day brings us back to the fact that everything originates from the ground up.”
Corporate volunteer days like these help us maintain and expand our gardens while creating meaningful opportunities for teams to learn about regenerative agriculture and food equity, and to give back to the community.
The Alameda County Water District (ACWD), in partnership with the Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency (BAWSCA), is hosting a free, in-person workshop: Water-Efficient Landscape Designs for the Five Senses; Learn how to remove your lawn and install a beautiful water-efficient landscape that engages all five senses: sight, scent, sound, touch, and taste. This class will be taught by landscape expert, Shelkie Tao. Information about Alameda County Water District’s Lawn Be Gone Rebate Program will be provided.

Where: 43885 S Grimmer Blvd., Fremont, CA 94538 (ACWD Headquarters)
REGISTER HERE– Class is free, but registration is required.
At LEAF, we believe in a world where every community has the knowledge and resources to work in harmony with nature to cultivate a healthier planet. Our urban gardens serve as living classrooms, soil science labs, and community spaces that empower people to learn, connect, and grow together.
