Thank you to all who came out for our Freedom From Seizures 5K North! Over 250 participants, volunteers, and sponsors enjoyed a beautiful sunny morning to support Delaware's epilepsy community. Congratulations to all race winners, but also to our Highest Individual Fundraiser (for the 31st year in a row) - Kathy Jackson, Biggest Team - Team Patrick, and Highest Team Fundraiser - Team Bryce. Thanks to Wawa for the delicious pretzels and Zingo's Supermarket for the refreshing water bottles. We also thank our sponsors for making this event possible: Christiana Care, Neurelis, UCB, Nemours Children's Health, and Cassidy Painting. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
Thanks to all who came out to support EFDE and our community at the Blue Rocks Non-Profit Appreciation Night in June! It was a beautiful night at the game, and we were thrilled to be there to spread awareness. We're already looking forward to next year and hope to see you there! On Jun 13, EFDE Teen Advocate, Johannes, and his family hosted the second Greenbank Cup, a fundraising tennis tournament for the Epilepsy Foundation of Delaware. Throughout the day, people crowded the Greenbank Park tennis courts, watching 40 players of all levels and ages playing both singles and doubles and enjoying refreshments. This year over $1,600 has been raised, with many people from the tennis and epilepsy communities contributing to the cause. Johannes, we are truly grateful for your efforts in organizing this event to promote epilepsy awareness and for your commitment to all Delaweareans living with epilepsy. My name is Erica and I am 23 with focal (partial) seizures. I was diagnosed with epilepsy on my 15th birthday after experiencing two tonic clonic seizures hours apart. Since then, I have experienced different types of focal seizures, with a few tonic-clonic seizures during EEG testing. My epilepsy journey has been a whirlwind, involving eight different medications, five different hospitals and four brain surgeries. However, I have never let epilepsy stop me from doing the things I love.
In May 2026, I graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in Environmental Studies. I took my time and conquered each class at my own pace. With so much support, I achieved a big milestone. During my time at UD, I had the honor of being a member and Vice President of the Epilepsy Awareness Club. I'm incredibly thankful for every friendship, opportunity, and memory from our events, collaborations, and advocate efforts.
The Epilepsy Foundation of Delaware helped me gain a deeper understanding of the impact epilepsy has on individuals and families, as well as the importance of advocacy, education and support. I am grateful to be a part of such a compassionate community and to have the opportunity to help raise awareness and support others on their epilepsy journeys.
