Feeling the Buzz: Students for LEAF is Underway!

LEAF%20S4L-22%201%20(1).png

Our Students for LEAF summer program officially kicked off at the end of June! A record number of 17 students signed up this year. They spent the first couple of sessions getting to know each other, becoming familiar with the LEAF Urban Farm by cracking challenging scavenger-hunt riddles, and getting proficient in one of their regular activities: propagating, harvesting and donating fresh, healthy produce to our food bank partners.

The students and we are buzzing with excitement about what else we have in store for them, including learning about beekeeping, composting, landscape design, phone photography, solar cooking, and so much more.

If you’re curious about Students for LEAF and would like to get notified when registrations open up again for 2027, please register your interest here.

New Urban Farm Mural Classroom Takes Shape

July%20newsletter%20mural%20classroom.jpeg

It’s been some time in the making, but we’re very excited to finally open our latest outdoor educational space at the LEAF Urban Farm - our Mural Classroom! Situated between two shipping containers and covered by shade cloth, it’s flanked by two amazing, educational murals designed by our resident artist and soil scientist, Zoe Caron, and painted by our community. The one on the right depicts California native species, and the one on the left is the soil-food-web mural. Thank you to Jerry, our Infrastructure Director, to our core volunteers Mike and Colin, and to all the other volunteers who helped shape this inspiring educational space!

Join us in celebrating the mural classroom’s inauguration and help us finish the soil food web mural on Sunday, July 19th! Find out more and sign up on Eventbrite

Thank You, Western Digital, for Volunteering at LEAF

Local tech giant Western Digital has been a long-time LEAF supporter, and we’re so grateful for their partnership. Last month, we welcomed some of their employees to a volunteering event at the LEAF Urban Farm. Together, the team toured the farm to learn more about LEAF, helped weed, filled a planter bed with compost, and planted some cucumbers and Forget-me-nots. At the end, they got to taste our local raw LEAF honey as a reward for their hard work!

Corporate volunteer days like this one help us remain financially sustainable while creating meaningful team-building opportunities for companies. Interested in bringing your team to the LEAF Urban Farm? Learn more here and contact us!

Front%20Cover.png

2025 was a year of growth for LEAF: We broke ground on the new LEAF Urban Farm, expanded our educational offerings, launched family days at the LEAF Urban Farm, welcomed teams from Bay Area companies to volunteer, and deepened our soil research partnerships.

All while educating 1,150+ attendees at 110 LEAF events, growing and donating 3,615 lbs. of fresh produce to our foodbank partners, and defining our five-year strategy.

2026 is going to be an exciting year. Under the motto, ‘Cultivating Minds,’ we are further expanding our educational programming with a renewed focus on educating young people.

Thank you for growing alongside us in this journey!
