Land and Water Stewards
Being stewards of our roads, trails, waterways and other shared public spaces benefits the whole community. It reduces hazards associated with litter, it creates a more inviting place for residents and visitors and it reduces costs associated with maintenance.
Road and Area Adoption Program - Members of the North Fayette Police Department in western Allegheny County wanted to do something to contribute to keeping their community clean and attractive to the residents and visitors. So, the department decided to participate in the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Land Steward program.
“We chose Summit Park Drive because it needed attention and would serve as a focal point to the community. One tenet of the North Fayette Police culture is to ‘Duty,’ where we fulfill our mission of Servant Leadership by putting the needs of others before ourselves,” said Lieutenant John Walls, North Fayette Police Department.
Their first cleanup was July 8. Officers and their families were joined by other North Fayette employees and residents. The effort produced 30 bags of trash, which included tires and old, discarded shopping carts.
“Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful made the process extremely simple. The approval process was completed in days and the personal attention was extraordinary. The signs provided by them are attractive and will stand out as you enter the Pointe and let visitors know that cleanliness is important to North Fayette Township and the North Fayette Police Department. Clean-up supplies were provided by Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. It was a great opportunity for us to connect with other township employees and residents. Many participants have already asked about our next clean-up date,” said Walls.
Adopt a road or area you care about. Visit our website for more information.
Water Stewards - If you are a water trail user, angler, boater or waterway enthusiast and interested in community science and building long-term stewardship of our water trails, register to be a waterway steward. Collect litter and stream health data while cleaning your favorite waterway. You choose where you want to clean - it can be a different waterway each time.

Community Pride Award
North Lebanon Township Supervisor, Ed Brensinger nominated LuAnn Horn and Kathy Redinger for the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Community Pride Award. Fondly known as the 'Litter Ladies of Lebanon County,' Horn and Redinger spend countless volunteer hours, on their own accord, cleaning up litter throughout Lebanon County. Their daily walk routes have evolved to strategically target areas within their community that are littered and require TLC.
"North Lebanon Township is honored to nominate and present the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Community Pride Award to LuAnn and Kathy, our 'Litter Ladies.' Their litter patrol and clean-up of high litter areas in North Lebanon Township and surrounding municipalities is greatly appreciated. We hope their voluntary act of service to the community will inspire others to do the same," said North Lebanon Township Supervisor, Ed Brensinger.
The Community Pride Award is available for elected officials to recognize those in the community working to change behaviors at the local level. The award is open on a rolling basis. Visit our website for a nomination application.
