November Snowpack & River Reports are brought to you by Berthod Motors

Summary:

As we head into this holiday weekend, we are launching the first snowpack report of the season. On the map below, notice the addition of snowflake icons, each representing a SNOTEL site - a remote data collection site that monitors snowpack throughout the winter. Snowpack is recorded as snow water equivalent (SWE) which is the amount of water contained within the snowpack, rather than the depth of the snow.  SWE provides information on the density of the snow, ultimately the amount of water held in the snowpack that will become our future water supply.  In Colorado, 80% of the water supply comes from snow!  Currently, snowpack in the Roaring Fork Watershed is 80% of average for this time of the year.  Happy Thanksgiving, and enjoy the snow whether you are skiing on it or walking through it looking for that perfect Christmas tree!
