WGEP's Plans for Growth
Our Sisters Lead Project Assistant, Khady Ndong (featured in the Ndajee 2024 program) with WGEP Class of 2024 Graduates in Senegal
Executive Director Amy Maglio provided an overview of the past 20 years of WGEP and shared the organization's plans for the future. “While we have made exponential progress over the past 20 years, growing from 12 to 30,000 women and girls served, there’s still more work to be done. Education rates for completing primary, entering secondary and high rates of early marriage and early pregnancy persist – especially in rural Africa."
Amy laid out a vision for WGEP that included expanding activities in Kenya and Senegal, and launching projects in 3 new countries by 2028. Stay tuned for more on WGEP’s expansion in the coming months!

Jerome McDonnell, former host of “Worldview” on WBEZ, led a discussion with Dorcas Kinyua, former WGEP scholar and current staff member, along with Julie Moller, a WGEP Movement Maker and longtime advocate. We were also joined by Khady Ndong, a former WGEP scholar and staff member from Senegal via video.
Each of these leaders shared their reflections on the impact WGEP has made in the last 20 years, and their hope for the future of girls’ education. Dorcas shared: “I am hopeful that the exposure I have received from WGEP will open more opportunities for me to be able to change the lives of many more girls in Kenya and the World.”
Thank you for joining us! We hope to see you next year.
