Celebrating BHM and the Year of the Dragon

Dear AAPIPers,

We hope you’ve had a restful and restorative start to 2024, and that the Lunar New Year continues to welcome new prosperity and opportunities in the Year of the Dragon for all those who celebrate!

Alongside all the positive change we’re welcoming in the new year, we recognize that global humanitarian crises are continuing to evolve and intensify. War rages on, political powers shift, and tensions grow, and as residents and citizens of the United States we should think critically about our impact on the international community. It remains crucial to center innocent civilians in our conversations about international upheaval and do what we can to preserve the lives and wellbeing of those directly impacted, including our own community members subjected to transnational repression

The current international fight for justice is mirrored in hundreds of ways by our national history, and Black History Month is an important time to celebrate the progress the United States has made towards racial equity while also focusing on the work still yet to be done. As we work to amplify inclusivity in decision-making across various sectors, this month encourages us to reflect on how centering Black perspectives is imperative to dismantling white supremacy and creating a more equitable society for us all. Just as the most directly impacted and vulnerable global citizens should be a focal point of our conversations about international policy and justice, the most marginalized Americans should be prioritized as we aspire towards an inclusive American democracy.

Frustration and grief in response to the past few months of global conflict and decades of inequity is understandable and overwhelming, but can also serve as a powerful motivator for positive change and growth. We encourage you to find ways to care for your global community through philanthropy and your institutions, but also to find ways as an individual to fight for a more just and equitable society.

In community,

AAPIP

The voices of our rapidly-growing and vital Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities are often missing or underrepresented in decision-making across various sectors. We, at Amplify AAPI, AAPIP, and AAPI Data, are thrilled to share the recording of our webinar which showcases how survey research and data can bridge this gap.
