July is Disability Pride Month!

Disability Pride Month is celebrated every July in recognition of the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and is an opportunity to honor the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disability community. Disability rights are civil rights.

More than 150 broadcasters - from CEO’s to those just entering the business -  turned out on July 20th for our first BFOA Media Mixer! The event was hosted by nationally syndicated radio air personality Angela Yee, who was named BFOA Talent Ambassador. Rounding out the evening was a rousing performance by YDE, who entertained the diverse group of attendees.

“I’m honored to be the Talent Ambassador for the Broadcasters Foundation. Their mission is vital to those in our industry who have been hit by tragic circumstances. We need to make sure that everyone in the broadcast industry is aware of the Foundation’s charitable purpose.” - Angela Yee

Hurricane Season Is Here

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is forecasting a normal hurricane season this year, with a range of 12 to 17 total named storms. Of those, 5 to 9 could become hurricanes, including 1 to 4 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher).

Last year, the BFOA distributed more than $100,000 to our colleagues affected by natural disasters, including hurricanes in Florida and Puerto Rico. WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Florida was hit especially hard. Watch their story.

The Broadcasters Foundation of America's Emergency Grant program provides one-time grants to broadcasters who find themselves in need after a natural disaster has severely damaged their home and personal property. Learn more about our grant programs here.
