He's a lean, mean, weather-forecasting machine! This past Monday marked Al Roker’s 30th Anniversary on NBC’s TODAY. After making his NBC debut at WKYC in Cleveland Ohio in 1978, the 71-years-young meteorologist picked up his TODAY mic on January 26, 1996!
To celebrate this incredible milestone, his co-hosts, family members, and some special guests threw him a celebratory barbecue in Studio A, featuring the Roker Rib Recipe! To top it off, many of his fans and colleagues dressed up in Roker-inspired clothing, fedoras, and glasses!
Friends and fellow colleagues posted words of appreciation across social media. Most noteworthy, Roker’s wife (and BFOA Board Member), Deborah Roberts shared a heartfelt message about his achievement. "So deeply proud of this guy, who's celebrating 3 decades of passion, devotion and storytelling on The Today Show," she wrote.
Throughout his time with NBC, Roker has amassed a plethora of accomplishments:
14 EMMY Awards, Including the 2025 EMMY Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award
Record for longest, uninterrupted weather report, spanning a total of 34 hours in 2014
The BFOA would like to acknowledge Roker’s long-lasting impact on our industry and the community at large. His broadcasting legacy will forever be an inspiration to us all. Congratulations, Al!
