Top Legal Issues for Small Volunteer Organizations
Wednesday, February 12 | 1:30 PM-3:00 PM | Webinar (Nonprofit Issues)

*CPE & CLE credits are available for this program for accountants and lawyers; to receive credit, please register at NonprofitIssues.com HERE.

Are you involved with a small nonprofit organization run by volunteers? If so, you are not alone (even though it may feel that way some days!).

About two-thirds of all charities registered with the IRS have gross revenue of less than $50,000 a year. They have little or no paid staff and rely on rotating groups of volunteers to run their programs and keep them out of trouble.

They include kids’ sports leagues, booster clubs and other school-related activities, advocacy and educational groups, artistic and cultural organizations, animal rescues, social clubs, community associations, religious groups, and many others. If you are involved with one of these organizations and want to stay small but stay legally safe, this program is for you.

Nonprofit Issues® editor and PA-based nonprofit attorney Don Kramer will discuss:

  • Basic legal structures;
  • Board roles and responsibilities;
  • Financial controls;
  • Personal liability;
  • Insurance;
  • Fundraising;
  • Deduction issues;
  • Record keeping;
  • Grantmaking;
  • Required governmental filings;
  • And other issues small groups face on a regular basis.

Volunteers who have real lives and don’t spend a lot of it worrying about the intricacies of nonprofit and tax law will come away with a checklist of important issues and materials to keep their organizations out of trouble and more focused on pursuing their missions.

Don Kramer has more than 45 years of experience in dealing with the legal issues of nonprofits of all types and sizes, is listed among The Best Lawyers in America in the category of nonprofit/charities law.

And, if you are a lawyer in a state that accepts CLE credits from other jurisdictions, Nonprofit Issues can provide certificates of attendance and proof of PA approval. CPE credits are also available for PA accountants. To receive CLE or CPE credits you must register at NonprofitIssues.com HERE.
