Four distinguished journalists will be inducted in the Atlanta Press Club Hall of Fame on Thursday, October 29 during a ceremony at the InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta. The Hall of Fame dinner is Atlanta media’s biggest night of the year and recognizes journalists who have made a significant impact on journalism in Georgia and around the country. Congratulations to our 2026 Inductees
Phil Boltonis the founder and publisher emeritus of Global Atlanta, the leading source of international business and diplomatic news in Georgia. Growing up in Ohio, France, and Massachusetts, he developed a global perspective that was further shaped by Peace Corps service in Kenya and studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Bolton began his journalism career at the Macon Telegraph before moving into international publishing and reporting roles in Atlanta and France. In 1990, he founded Agio Press, launching a newsletter that evolved into Global Atlanta in 1993. Under his leadership, the publication became a key connector of Atlanta’s international business, diplomatic, and cultural communities while documenting the city’s rise as a global hub. Since retiring in 2019, Bolton has remained involved with Global Atlanta through special projects and book reviews. He has received numerous honors, including the Governor’s International Award and the President’s “E” Award for Export Service. He also serves on The Carter Center’s Board of Councilors and the Théâtre du Rêve Board of Trustees.
Glenn Burnsis Chief Meteorologist Emeritus at WSB-TV, where he spent more than 40 years helping North Georgians prepare for severe weather before retiring in 2022. An AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist, Burns continues to join Channel 2 Action News for special weather coverage and special programming throughout the year. Burns began his broadcasting career at age 14 in Miami and earned a journalism degree with a minor in astronomy from the University of Florida. He went on to serve as chief meteorologist at television stations in Florida and Minnesota before joining WSB-TV in 1981. Over the course of his distinguished career, he received numerous honors, including Associated Press Weathercaster of the Year, multiple Best of Atlanta awards, and several Emmy nominations. Beyond forecasting, Burns has been deeply involved in weather education and community service, working with organizations including the March of Dimes, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, and The Center for Family Resources. He remains active through speaking engagements at the Tellus Science Museum and Planetarium, where he shares his passion for weather, astronomy, and science.
Dr. Sanjay Guptais the award-winning chief medical correspondent for CNN and host of the CNN podcast "Chasing Life." Dr. Gupta, a practicing neurosurgeon, plays an integral role in CNN’s reporting on health and medical news across all of CNN’s platforms. Since 2001, Dr. Gupta has covered some of the most important health stories in the United States and around the world. On March 9, 2020, Dr. Gupta penned an op-ed announcing the network would refer to the novel coronavirus outbreak as a “pandemic,” ahead of the WHO and the CDC. Throughout 2020 into 2021, Dr. Gupta reaffirmed his role as a trusted guide to viewers worldwide on navigating between facts and fiction surrounding Covid-19 and the pandemic. In addition to his work for CNN, Dr. Gupta is an associate professor of neurosurgery at Emory University Hospital and associate chief of neurosurgery at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. He serves as a diplomat of the American Board of Neurosurgery and in 2019, Dr. Gupta was elected to the National Academy of Medicine, considered one of the highest honors in the medical field. His latest best-selling book, "It Doesn’t Have to Hurt: Your Smart Guide to a Pain-Free Life," published in September 2025 with Simon & Schuster. Dr. Sanjay Gupta received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and a Doctorate of Medicine degree from the University of Michigan Medical School.
Lois Reitzesretired from WABE in June of 2025 after 45 ½ years. Before that she was the executive producer and host of "City Lights" on WABE-FM 90.1, the national public radio affiliate in Atlanta. She began working at the station in 1979 as a music programmer and announcer and became program director in 1992. She programmed and hosted three hours of "Second Cup Concert" from 1981 through 2014. In January of 2015, she began hosting and was the executive producer of "City Lights," WABE’s arts & culture program. She also presented morning music on WABE’s classical stream and still serves as commentator and interviewer for WABE’s Atlanta symphony orchestra broadcasts. Before coming to Atlanta, she worked at WFIU, in Bloomington, the national public radio affiliate licensed to Indiana University, where she pursued graduate study in musicology. Reitzes holds a bachelor of music degree from Chicago musical college of Roosevelt University, where she was a piano student of Felix Ganz. Recent honors include the governor’s award for the arts & humanities (2017) and the legends of Georgia radio (2022). She is also included in the legends category of the Atlanta 500 and received proclamations from the Georgia state legislature as well as the Atlanta city council.
