This week, Sunshine Supper marked an incredible milestone: 15 years of community meals. What started in 2010 at the Masonic Lodge with just 35 guests has grown into a vital part of our community, now serving 400-500 meals every Monday evening. This week’s meal, our 833rd, was provided by Sun Prairie United Methodist Church – the same group that served the very first supper 15 years ago. Through the years, Sunshine Supper has grown and adapted, but its core values of hospitality, service, and community endure.

Sunshine Supper is successful because of community support. The program is run by volunteers, with more than 20 people on its organizing committee. And an amazing 73 sponsor groups have participated over the years, including 12 legacy groups that have supported the program since its inception. These groups – including civic organizations, churches, businesses, and more – prepare and serve the meals, demonstrating the shared commitment of Sun Prairie residents to helping their neighbors. We are deeply grateful to the dedication of everyone in our community who makes this weekly meal possible. Cheers to 15 years!

This month, the Sun Prairie Food Pantry is focusing on collecting breakfast items. A nourishing breakfast can make all the difference to families who shop at our pantry. We are in need of coffee and tea, cold cereal, jelly and jam, juice, pancake mix and syrup, or any other breakfast foods. You can drop off donations at the pantry or shop the Pantry January Amazon wish list to have items delivered directly.

The Bed Lady program is delivering an incredible 45 beds to kids this month and is in need of twin size bedding. Some top requests from the kids include characters like Sonic, Mario, Spiderman, Moana, and Hello Kitty, or colors like pink, teal, red, and blue. But any twin bedding for kids is welcome and needed. Check out our Facebook post for more info on this month’s delivery requests or shop The Bed Lady Amazon wish list for ongoing needs. Thank you!

How incredible! Weston Hannan with Harvest in the Gardens stopped by to donate $18,000 to our Food for Kids programming! Thank you to Weston, the Hannan family, the O'Connor family, and all the event sponsors for their support through the annual Harvest in the Gardens event. Thank you all for helping us build a stronger, more food-secure community!

A huge thank you to our neighbors at Culver's for donating the proceeds from their Concretes for a Cause fundraiser to support the Sun Prairie Food Pantry! We're so grateful for the strong community connections here in Sun Prairie. Your generosity makes a real impact in our community—thank you!

Thank you to the seven volunteer teams who packed 580 break bags to help food-insecure kids get through the recent holiday breaks. Each bag was filled with breakfast and lunch items. This effort is part of our Food for Kids programming, and bags were distributed in partnership with school social workers and Community Schools in Marshall and Sun Prairie.
