NCCW 2025-2027 Call for Volunteers

Members of the 2025-2027 commissions and committees will serve two-year terms, concluding at the 2027 Convention. The groups do their work primarily through email and monthly conference calls or virtual meetings. These are volunteer groups that serve without compensation. These groups offer an excellent opportunity for women to make a meaningful impact at the national level in their areas of interest and expertise by participating in the planning and implementation of programs that educate, empower, and support women.

General membership applications must be submitted by September 19, 2025, using the application form. Appointments will be announced by September 30, 2025.  Women selected will be announced on the NCCW Website.

Please note that all members applying for appointment to any NCCW governance group must be current NCCW Individual Members and must be available to meet via conference calls or Zoom, as well as communicate regularly via email.

NCCW National Commissions

Our national commissions are critical to our NCCW mission, working with our affiliates at the province, diocesan, deanery/vicariate/regional, and parish levels. Based on the bylaws, NCCW has three (3) national commissions. It is strongly recommended that applicants have experience with a commission at one of the affiliate levels.

At a minimum, all commissions will be expected to:
•    Meet once a month by Zoom/conference call and provide minutes to the President.
•    Provide a 1-page written report for each NCCW Board meeting on the work of the commission.
•    Provide a column for all issues of Catholic Woman (CW) magazine by the due date provided.
•    Provide information to the President by the 20th of each month to be included in the President’s Pen.
•    Participate in Council Chat when the topic of the call is related to their commission.
•    Help find or develop resources that may be made available for free on the NCCW website.
•    Submit a resolution for each Convention.
•    Conduct one breakout session for each Convention.

Women appointed to these commissions should be willing to accept calls/emails from members related to their commission work, update the commission resources, network with affiliate commission chairs, and perform other duties as assigned.

Spirituality Commission.  This commission reinforces faith and supports service to the Church and to the world through discipleship and spiritual growth guided by Catholic Social Teaching. The commission’s work will include monitoring Catholic and issue-related websites, such as the USCCB, as well as Right to Life issues related to the commission. Additionally, it will involve developing prayers and prayer services for use by affiliated organizations.

Service Commission.  This commission engages the members of NCCW and all people in working to address the needs and concerns of their individual communities, supporting and enhancing family life within the Church and society. This commission combines the previous Family, Community Concerns, and International Concerns Commissions. In addition to the above responsibilities, the commission will support NCCW’s advocacy work through coalitions and partnerships that align with Catholic Church teachings. Members will be responsible for promoting existing programs, such as the March for Life, March for Marriage, Human Trafficking Awareness, and the November Day of Fasting. The commission’s work also encompasses NCCW’s global partnerships with Catholic Relief Services, Cross Catholic Outreach, and the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations (WUCWO), as well as related activities as needed or requested.

Leadership Commission.  This commission provides organizational development, training opportunities, public relations resources, and publications to strengthen leadership within NCCW. Another component is membership recruitment and development.  In addition to the above responsibilities, this commission will be expected to work to develop and promote meaningful resources for leadership development. The commission will work closely with the LTD Team, as needed. Membership activities should include recruiting new affiliates and reactivating lost affiliates, developing and implementing strategies to diversify the age and ethnic composition of members, and promoting ideas to increase individual NCCW membership.

Committees

Bylaws Committee.  This Committee reviews the Bylaws of the National Council of Catholic Women annually. In addition, the committee reviews Bylaw amendments to be submitted to the Board of Directors. It presents the final Bylaw amendments for approval to the members at the Business Meeting in odd-numbered years or sooner on an emergency basis.

Education Committee.   This Committee will work to rediscover and promote programs established by and for the NCCW, including Water for Life and the Madonna Plan.

Legislative Advocacy Committee.  This Committee monitors issues that impact Catholic Church teaching and USCCB priorities, both positively and negatively, and initiates education on or action by members.  Information should be given to the President by the 20th of each month for the President's Pen and articles submitted to the Catholic Woman magazine editor.  Experience in legislative advocacy is preferred.

Our Lady of Good Counsel Award Committee.   This Committee reviews the applications and recommends a recipient, with final selection of the NCCW award recipient approved by the Board of Directors. The chair of this committee is the prior year’s awardee(s).  The chair of the committee participates in the awarding of the OLGC Award at the annual Convention.

Resolutions Committee.  This Committee is responsible for developing and reviewing resolutions submitted by members, affiliates, and commissions, in accordance with the procedures outlined in the bylaws. The Committee reviews/approves the resolutions to be submitted to the Board of Directors and presents the final resolutions for approval to the members at the Business Meeting in even-numbered years or sooner on an emergency basis.  Prior experience writing resolutions preferred.
