Thursday, March 13th, 2025 | 8:00am - 2:00pm- The SPARK! Career Awareness Fair is designed to provide an interactive, hands-on experience for students to explore various career options. This is not a job fair – we are seeking companies that can offer engaging, booths where students can actively participate, and learn about the educational and career pathways required to enter different fields. - Wednesday January 22, 2025 | 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm - Historically Speaking with Dr. Chandra Manning, Professor of History at Georgetown University, is an American historian specializing in 19th century U.S. History. Manning received her Ph.D. from Harvard in 2002. She is the author of the books What This Cruel War Was Over and Troubled Refuge: Struggling for Freedom in the Civil War. Flint will present his book “Near and Far Waters: The Geopolitics of Seapower”. SAVE THE DATE: Friday, January 17, 2025 -The 2025 St. Mary’s County Science and Engineering Fair (SMCSEF) at the USMSM SMART Building. The award ceremony is on the same afternoon. The Science Fair is open to the St. Mary’s County residents, and is the perfect venue for students to share their talents in experimental methodologies, engineering design and testing, and other scientific projects.

CALL FOR JUDGES for The St. Mary’s County Science and Engineering Fair will be held on Friday, January 17th, 2025 at the University of Maryland SMART Building, 4219 Airport Rd., California, MD. The snow date is Friday, January 24th at the SMART building.
Would you be willing to serve as a judge in this year’s fair? In-person judging starts at 0800 and lasts until approximately 1200. You also will have the opportunity to view an on-line presentation of each project and these will be posted one week before the Fair. Please email Ferd Reetz at ferd.reetz@md.metrocast.net or call (301-247-9941) if you would be like to serve as a judge on the primary date and/or the backup date, using the form below.

Please place an X on the line by the category (or categories) you would be available to judge.

Please share with any colleagues you think might be interested in serving as a judge. You will find being a judge to be a rewarding experience. Without our volunteer judges, the Science and Engineering Fair would not be the rewarding experience it is for the students of St. Mary’s County.
February 22, 2025 | all day Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) 2025 event! JSHS invites high school students to report on the results of their original research investigations in STEM and compete for scholarships and recognition at university-held regional symposia. SCHOLARSHIPS & CHALLENGES
Applications are now open for TPP Pathways Scholarship – The scholarship will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who plan on attending the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) and majoring in engineering will be eligible to receive a full scholarship to cover tuition, fees, and books for up to two years, providing they continue to meet the eligibility requirements and remain in good standing.

NASA’s fourth annual Power to Explore Student Challenge kicked off November 7, 2024. The science, engineering, technology, and mathematics (STEM) writing challenge invites kindergarten through 12th grade students in the United States to learn about radioisotope power systems, a type of nuclear battery integral to many of NASA’s far-reaching space missions.
Students are invited to write an essay about a new nuclear-powered mission to any moon in the solar system they choose. Submissions are due Jan. 31, 2025. To learn more about the challenge, visit:
